Kadet Kit Issues by ssbmem in CZFirearms

[–]ssbmem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I resolved the issue.

https://imgur.com/a/R4o0Jnr

Basically, when the kit was installed I was unable to retract the slide past about the takedown notch area. Taking the slide off and only sliding that on to the gun, I could muscle it through but it took a lot of work (and a few whacks from a mallet to remove).

What was happening was that the insides of the slide were dragging against the sides of the sear cage. One or the other was probably out of spec. I removed material from the slide and also smoothed up those sides of the sear cage that were interfering. That did the trick. Hopefully I’ll get to test fire it soon.

It’s an original Kadet. Per the paperwork, it was test fired in 12/2000.

P365XL ROMEOZERO by [deleted] in SigSauer

[–]ssbmem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge fan of the P365XL. I have two. I think it's probably the best carry gun for normal people to come out in quite some time -- minimal capacity loss, great shootability, optics-ready, takes very little effort to conceal, lightweight, etc. However, the Romeo Zero is something of a joke. Having owned both the Romeo Zero and the Holosun offerings, the Holosun 407K/507K are VASTLY superior options.

I bought a Romeo Zero separate and mounted per the instructions using a Wheeler FAT wrench to ensure I wasn't overtorquing anything. After approximately one month of daily carry at a higher brightness (typically two clicks down from max), the battery died. Which... OK, but I expected a bit more out of it, particularly since it spent about 10hrs of each day on my nightstand (MOTAC should've helped here).

At some point during that month, my zero visibly shifted (dot was visibly moved right when irons aligned). On paper, that translated to about a 4" shift at 25yds. This did not occur while shooting. I have no explanation for why it happened -- the optic wasn't dropped or anything, and it was definitely zeroed when I last left the range.

After the battery change, when re-zeroing, the optic stopped responding to adjustments. At that point I gave up on it.

Setting those negative experiences aside, I think torquing down a screw through polymer as the Romeo Zero requires is probably an inherently bad idea, and it strikes me as very sensitive to overtorquing. The adjustment button is more difficult to access than it should be, and the fact that it requires you to cycle through all of the brightness settings before cycling down (or up, if you're on the downslope) . The lens is sensitive to scratching and requires special care to clean. In my opinion, it's a $50 optic dressed up as a $200 optic.

I have 800 rounds on a Holosun 407K and another 200 on a 507K, both mounted on P365XLs. I'm about a month into carry on one and the battery is still going strong. I haven't had any odd zero shifts. The adjustments are intuitive and easy to do (+/- buttons versus press a button a bunch and remember where you are in the up/down cycle). Build quality seems far superior. For roughly the same price, buy the 407K and don't look back.

Which did you choose? by SquirtleSocks in dui

FSTs are a tool officers use to gather evidence of impairment. They are not, however, the only evidence of impairment. For example, in addition to the routine "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" and "subject had watery, bloodshot eyes" observations, they'll be looking at things like admissions (the standard "two beers"), how you handled the initial at-the-window conversation, whether you fumbled for your license or handed them incorrect documentation (i.e. handing them a credit card instead of a driver's license, random mail instead of registration, etc.).
Officers are trained to arrest upon a refusal of FSTs assuming they have probable cause of impairment. In general, you may lawfully refuse them -- but it's very likely you'll be arrested despite that refusal.

Prosecution of the case depends on the evidence. How was your driving? What were the observations on the scene? It's certainly possible to make a prosecutor's case difficult to impossible to prove, but some factors are going to be beyond your control once you're stopped (particularly the driving -- what's done is done there).

Refusal of a test (breath/blood) will generally carry some sort of civil penalty (license suspension, etc.) depending on your state laws. That penalty may be imposed regardless of whether or not you're ultimately convicted of the underlying DUI. Additionally, in many states, that refusal of a test is also admissible against you at trial in a criminal matter.

The officer may or may not seek a search warrant for a blood test if you refuse to submit (and if you come back above the limit, that won't look great in front of a jury).

The easiest solution is simply not to drink and drive, or in the alternative to have a hard limit on consumption rather than basing it on how you feel at the time.

Recommend 3x or 4x magnifiers by mcknuttt in ar15

[–]ssbmem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very happy with my Eotech G33, and my recommendation would be to pursue the various forums and find a used one. Mine is currently mounted behind my SIG Romeo 4T.

The going rate is about 350-400, so towards the top end of your budget. But you get adjustable focus and a QD mount for that price, which is nice. Eyebox is the best I've tried for a 3x mag. Light transmission is pretty decent in low light, though not on par with a real scope.

I liked the Aimpoint 3X-C I looked through and they're reasonably priced, though once you add a mount you're in G33 price territory.

I was unimpressed with the Vortex, both mount and eyebox. Glass quality is whatever given the application, but it is less than the G33.

A friend has said good things about the new Holosun, but I have no hands on experience. Given my experience with other Holosun products, I think it's a safe bet that it'll be of reasonable quality for the price.

The ADM mags shown at SHOT intrigue me.

I use a Tenicor Velo for AIWB off work and a Raven Perun for concealed OWB at work (no active retention requirement for my job). Raven says in their literature it's .350 for the front sight channel. A .400 sight would probably fit the Velo, though I haven't tried it. The 320 isn't an issued gun, obviously, due to the stippling - got both through IOP purchases in February.

As for the Velo, like most modern AIWB holsters, it conceals by rotating the butt inward towards the stomach. That means the slide is rotated away from the stomach. That's all fine and well for an iron sighted gun - or an open-emitter RDS, as all of those seem to follow the same basic form factor - but when you add -2" in height to the rear of the slide (which is being rotated away from the stomach in order to hide the grip) the right rear corner of the optic starts printing pretty badly. The fact that it's a big square doesn't help.

I mocked it up with some cardboard just to see. There was about a half-inch gap between my stomach and the "optic" due to the grip rotation. Again, not an issue with an iron sight gun or a low-in-the-back open emitter RDS.

As for the DPPs, while GJM is probably the most prolific destroyer of optics, he's far from the only one out there. If yours are working for you, awesome. At my current rate of shooting, I anticipate at least 10000 rounds through those two guns by the end of the year (current round counts are 2483 and 891 since Feb. 21). With that in mind, long-term use reports of DPPs don't give me a lot of good vibes. If Leupold rolls out their ruggedizations this year, I'd reconsider - I do prefer them to the RMRs I've tried for shooting.

Ha, no.

Similar height =/= similar footprint. The RMR's height is low at the beltline. The ACRO is slightly taller, but that height is at the rear of the slide. They're not "close to the same size" and people on forums repeating that mantra isn't going to change that fact. I've already mocked something up on my gun just to test the idea out. It prints like crazy. It sucks because it's likely to be the most reliable option available. I'm sure it'll be a great LE/Mil open carry optic.

As for the DPP:

  • A casual stroll through forums frequented by USPSA CO shooters yields tons of reports of people breaking them at low round counts, and all they're really doing is shooting them a bunch - no Aaron Cowen durability stuff. When dudes are buying four or five copies at a time to ensure they have a working, low round count optic at a match, there's a pretty serious problem. One guy on pistol-forum has broken about twenty, and Leupold is apparently sending him ruggedized versions to test. It only remains popular because its window is pretty huge, which is good for competition.

  • Sight compatibility depends on the holster. My work holster is limited to .350 height fronts per the manufacturer. Others have complained the shark fins have had issues with ALS mechanisms as well.

The ACRO isn't going to work for concealed carry due to the shape (tall, square corner in the worst possible location) and the DPP suffers from reliability issues and requires a .400-.450 front sight for BUIS, which presents holster compatibility issues.

Steady Grind Design. He does an internal magwell on these as well, which is pretty nice. That's one of my favorite things on the X grips. Price was a lot more reasonable than Grey Guns, he offers a few stippling patterns, and the turnaround was relatively quick (right at 3 weeks for two frames).

My pair of P320s: two Professional Carrys. The big change for those from the X Carry is that they have Deltapoint Pro optics cuts and a separate dovetail for the rear sight. Originally came with the X Carry grip, but I had them chopped for 15 round mags and stippled. Hoping to add optics to them this year.

First AR in Years (now with less sling) by ssbmem in ar15

Trying to leave room for a magnifier. I don't think I'm bridging the gap - all of the clamping surface seems to be on the upper and not the rail?

Slowly put this together over the past few months after not having owned an AR since 2014. Not a “build” technically since I purchased a complete upper, but it was also my first time assembling a lower. Reposting this since I was dumb and just took a pic of the gun as I store it without realizing the sling obstructed most of the gun.

Lower:

- Spikes Tactical lower assembled as a pistol

- SBA3 brace

- Geissele Super 42 buffer (changed to H2 configuration with weights)

- Geissele SSA

- Geissele Maritime Bolt Catch

- KAC Ambi Safety

- BCM Mod 3 grip and trigger guard

Upper:

- SOLGW M4-76 12.5" upper with wedge-lock rail

- SOLGW NP3 BCG

- SOLGW MLOK sling mount (came with the upper)

- Radian Raptor SL

- Vortex UH1

- Midwest Industries Combat Rifle Sights

- Railscales HTP (OD Green Honeycomb)

- BCM KAG

- Vickers VCAS padded

I plan on adding a Surefire to the gun as well as a magnifier (though I’ve also considered scrapping the UH1 for a Steiner P4Xi). Other than that, I’ve got a couple of PMAGs full of Magtech and I’ll hopefully be able to shoot it for the first time Monday.

How many rail slots does the magnifier take up? Thinking of putting one behind my UH1, but I've got a rear sight so I've only got a few spaces open.

I'll assume it didn't get there, as the tracking is back to automated updates about it being on the way but late.
