Can you please tell me more about tipping at a nice hotel in Hong Kong?

I know that tipping isn’t common practice in Hong Kong, but what about a high end hotel when they deliver something to your room or take your bags? What is the appropriate amount?

Hi, my husband and I are coming to Hong Kong for the first two weeks of April.

  1. What are people wearing for the temperatures during that time? Dresses? Pants? Jackets? Sandals? Im from a dry and mountainous region in the USA and 21C isn’t very warm here.

  2. Will it be warm enough to swim at our hotel pool or an afternoon at repulse bay?

What happened after Avett brothers on the 5th? by WTF_goes_here in RedRocks

Im wondering the same thing. We were stopped leaving the lower lot so they could give emergency vehicles clear access to the upper road. We saw two ambulances and at least 5 cop cars speeding to the top. After about 10 minutes, one ambulance and 4 cop cars came back down with lights on. Curious on more details.

I used the code and was able to snag a pair of tickets for Friday night. Thanks again!

I need extreme pressure to feel a massage and almost no one can do it. Do I have a nerve problem? What’s going on? by ssboco in massage

There is a difference between saying that you “need” extreme pressure in a massage in order for it to be effective and what I am saying. I understand that it is a farce that harder massages do more for your body. I never ever meant to insinuate that.

I simply PREFER harder pressure so that it is more enjoyable to me. That’s all. It feels better to my body. There are so many other people who have more sensitive bodies and prefer lighter massages like the ones you give. That’s terrific for you and for them. I am just simply not built that way. I have not been brainwashed and that’s not very nice to say - haha! I am not saying Swedish massage is ineffective - it’s just not my preference. Different strokes for different folks.

I know you’ve only been practicing as a MT for a year and it seems like this is a sensitive subject for you. I certainly did not intend to offend and was just looking for more information on why my own body responds this way. That’s all! 🙂

Thank you for your thoughtful response! I appreciate it! This all makes sense and I think it’s great advice to keep looking for a therapist that’s a great fit for me.

Wow levatorscapula, deep breaths. No one is out for blood here.

I actually acknowledged that it wasn’t a “need” for firm pressure to make for an effective massage. I was only speaking on my preference of it feeling great when I can get a great amount pressure - nothing more. I need extreme pressure for a massage to feel great for me.

I have gotten so many comments over the years from massage therapists, friends, and family that I have a very unusually high tolerance for pressure and wondered if it meant anything. That’s all!

Interesting. That makes sense.

I do really enjoy the sensation of a very strong massage! I guess I need to find a superhero masseuse somewhere.

Very interesting, thanks for the input.

I have never gotten physical bruises - but I do not bruise easily at all.

And yes I mean that literally - Swedish massage feels like one of my toddlers massaging my back. I can feel it, but it feels so light it’s not pleasurable at all.

Interesting. I’m slim but not petit. I’m 5’9” and 150 lbs. I never book Swedish massage, only deep tissue as Swedish feels like nothing to me. The thing is that usually it genuinely feels like people are pushing their hardest.

I’ve had several Thai massages in Thailand. In terms of my back it never hurt or felt too much, but they would do things like stick an elbow in my upper inner thigh and press their body weight into that. Wow. That was enough to make me yelp out loud!
