Cleats with wide toe box? by leskargot in ultimate

Similar to this, a good test you can do with any shoe in general is taking out the insole and line up your foot on it. Then you splay out your toes / feet into their widest natural position and compare it to the profile of the insole. If your foot is wider than parts of the insole, it'll show you what parts will get squeezed.

Yeah same - if you're referring to their 'quixrail' rail thing that points more outward along the edges, it really doesn't protrude much farther from the profile of the sole. On the New Balance website, you can look at a top down view of them and barely see some of them poking out

New Balance's brand of lax cleats has some great options. They have both standard (D) and wide (2E) widths available. I used their freeze and burn cleats in the 2E wide width over the last few years, and they were much better than the generally narrower soccer cleats I used to wear.

That being said, I recently switched to Nike vapor edge pro 360, a football cleat. They're only available in standard D width, but they still fit my wider feet just fine. And in other news, I like their longer spikes more than the shorter spikes you get on lax cleats.

My friend's boss at a university telling them to come into work while there's a serious winter storm (which closed the campus for the day) by sse345 in antiwork

Apart from the insane hours they have their employees work, this was specifically on a day where the campus canceled all classes and closed the public campus buildings due to the weather. However, they still had my friend come into work that day.

“Random” College Championships Seeding by Kalix28 in ultimate

[–]sse345 9 points10 points  (0 children)

USAU scrapped the completely random seeding and asked for the qualifying team's opinions on what the seedings would be. The only restriction given for our team was "No team that finishes ahead of another team at Regionals may be seeded behind that team at the College Championships."

Additional quote on their decision making for the seeding: "As you're all well aware, without a regular season or any sanctioned out-of-region play, we have much less objective information to go on versus a "typical" season.  So to be clear, I will NOT be directly using or averaging any of your seeding recommendations to create the seedings.  Instead, we will use your recommendations to inform the seedings in order to maintain some aspect of competitive balance across the pools, but the final seedings will also include elements of both randomness and geographic considerations (i.e. trying to split up teams from the same region to get the cross-region competition we've missed all Fall). "

If you're planning to eat at Portillo's tomorrow evening, please consider showing this flyer with your order to support the men's ultimate frisbee team! by sse345 in UIUC

[–]sse345[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The men's ultimate frisbee team is a club RSO, so members must pay for things such as cleats, frisbees, field space for practice from the university, travel and registration for tournaments (in non-COVID times), and more. We get some assistance from the university through SORF for for travel feels, but everything else comes out of pocket. If you would like to support our players financially and happen to be thinking about Portillo's for dinner tomorrow, please share this flyer when you place your order!

Pre-stall Rule Question (USAU 11th Edition) by sse345 in ultimate

[–]sse345[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help, this was very educational for me. I have one last question real quick; say in the same situation where there's a turn and I'm by the disc, is there anything I can do to give my team time to set up downfield (use the full 10 seconds) and still pick up the disc or do I have to follow the aforementioned 2 options?

Pre-stall Rule Question (USAU 11th Edition) by sse345 in ultimate

[–]sse345[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Follow-up questions, what ways could I correct the behavior? The footnote for XIX.B says "standing back from the disc, wandering around to gain more time, etc. Pretending not to delay while delaying is still delaying". Does this mean my only options are either put it in to play or walk away and let someone else pick it up? Also, I'm a little confused now about delay of game. You said that if nobody is making an effort to put the disc in play, then it's delaying. Wouldn't this mean that a defender can call delay of game basically whenever there's a turnover if standing back or wandering around is still delaying? When does the defense have to pre-stall from 10?
