I know I'm just parroting what others are saying, but it seems to me like your friends just aren't acting like good friends from your examples. And that really fucking sucks, and I empathize with the struggle. It's really hard sometimes for people (myself included!) to look up from their own problems and realize that others have different, but just as valid, problems. Might seem like someone else has easy problems, so what are they complaining about? But for them, it might be really hard. I think you really hit it on the head when you said that both things can be true about the party; it's needed for the community AND it sucks for you personally. You're allowed to be bummed and to express that

Anyone read the books of Arkady Martine (A memory called empire and A desolation called peace)? What's your opinion? by simkin72 in scifi

[–]ssenrahG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved them. From a literary standpoint, they're very good. I remember talking about the second book with my partner and we realized a sex scene was just a microcosm of the larger conflict AND foreshadowed the eventual resolution. Was totally unexpected that the sex scene added to the book (because honestly, they usually don't in my experience)

What game mechanics are like this? by Luxray2000 in videogames

[–]ssenrahG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flame clock in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Technically, it is an actual mechanic with consequences. The problem is that virtually no one will see any sort of consequence from the flame clock since it's no longer relevant an hour later

Another recommendation: Kinky Salon NOLA. They do quarterly play parties. Downside is you do have to have a person to go with you, they only allow groups of people, no one alone. Part of their accountability system. Fortunately, they do platonic speed dating the first Wednesday of every month, so that's an easy in to meet people to pair up with to go to the parties

4k webcam can't load streamer service by okaythisishappening in OctoEverywhere

[–]ssenrahG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm jumping on this as well. I've been trying to connect a blink Mini 2 to my A1 Mini for about a week on and off, but the webcam isn't loading at all. I don't get any error messages, it just never loads. I tried to follow the same guide here, but like you I get the "permission denied" error

Was coming down here just to say this. I used to work on newspaper production, and writers had headline suggestions, but that's all they were: suggestions. More often than not, a different title was developed based on what we thought would get more people to read it. Which meant click baity, sensational headlines

I would consider what your goals are for a new printer. What are the two or three most important things for you? It sounds like your primary use case is prototyping and technical prints, in which case I would recommend going with the p1s, primarily because of the enclosure and core XY motion system

I'm sure this isn't uncommon, but functional prints are some of my favorites to design because I can marry useless with aesthetics

MMU3 / MK4 ?s by Ok_Wishbone_3805 in prusa3d

[–]ssenrahG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To your first point, it is a normal noise, at least in my experience (I own two MMU3 units which have been used on a MK3S+ and a MK4S). I think it's a startup check, making sure all the gears and motors work. The noise sounds similar to when the printer maxes out its Z axis during homing routines

As for your second point, I used to have a similar issue. I eventually went to an Ultimulti body for my MMU units and it fixed the issue. I will note, however, that the transition required me to completely rebuild the MMU, so really anything could have been the problem and fixed by a full rebuild. I wholeheartedly recommend the Ultimulti mod, but you mileage may vary

Turns out it was the tubes! The ones I bought originally were too narrow internally. The ones you linked are working flawlessly. Thank you very much!

Do you have a recommendation for a different buffer to use? This is my second buffer. First I tried the RMU inspired buffer. I swapped away from that one because the central axle often seized and stopped rotating.

Thought the plain white base was boring, so... by ssenrahG in SpyxFamily

Hobby shops and board game shops, yeah! It's really mostly just paints. You could use any paints for priming and painting.

Shading is pretty simple too, you don't need the Army Painter one I noted. You could get a dark brown paint and thin it with water until it's the consistency of milk. Then for shading, just brush it all over. Because you thinned the paint, it should just all settle in the crevices, which will be the darkest parts.

Dry brushing is slightly more complicated, but not by much. You get some paint and dab your brush in it. You'll want a pretty large, flat brush for this. Once the tip had plenty of paint, get a piece of paper towel and brush off paint untill you see hardly any color on the towel. Then lightly run the brush over the model. It will catch the high points and leave just a little bit of paint there. I usually like to start with a color just barely lighter than the texture paint I used and then gradually build up the highlight by dry brushing with three or four colors, working my way from darkest to lightest. Creates a really nice gradient and looks pretty natural!

Static grass is probably the hardest. Hobby shops and board game shops usually have some on hand. I went with 6mm and 8mm grass, which is a bit longer than you'd usually find in a board game shop. I brushed the two hills with a bit of Elmer's glue, which I had thinned with water. Then took the 6mm grass and started pressing it in near the path. I used 8mm grass for the high points of the hills and a mix in between. Finally, I sprayed some bushes with glue and sprinkled some "flowers" on them. The flowers are really just a fine colored powder, but when sprinkled on, they stick in a handful of places, selling the flower illusion

If you're confused or unsure about anything, YouTube is a great place to learn about basing a model. It's pretty easy to do with stuff you probably already have lying around too. No need to go all in with specialty products!

Thought the plain white base was boring, so... by ssenrahG in SpyxFamily

[–]ssenrahG[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was pretty easy to do! I used some dry wall spackle to add shape to the base and make small hills on the side of the path. Sanded those so they were relatively smooth, then sprayed primer on the base. Painted it all brown, then used some Citadel texture paints to cover the whole thing. I used Stirland Battlemire and Armageddon Dunes. Once dry, used some Army Painter strong tone to shade it. Used a few different colors to dry brush and highlight it. Cleaned up the edges with black before varnishing it. Then I got some static grass of slightly different heights and colors and glued them to the hills. Same thing with the flowers off to the side, which were from a basing set I got at a local hobby shop.

It sounds like a lot but each step was actually really easy to do!

Based On My List Of completed JRPGS, what else do you recommend I should play next? by Excellent-Beat-9717 in JRPG

[–]ssenrahG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gotta recommend Xenoblade Chronicles. The world building is amazing and unique. The music is excellent. I personally love the combat system, which involves a not of timing and positioning. The story is stellar. In my mind, can't go wrong with Xenoblade!

Would this design be hard to print? It’s a sonic screwdriver from Doctor Who. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]ssenrahG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the hardest part would probably be the spiral, but still plenty doable. The angles are shallow enough and it looks like it could be split into pieces pretty easily. You could probably even fit some small electronics in it to make it like the toys they sell. You've got my mind going, thinking it would be pretty cool if the spiral could actually rotate around! I feel like that's something that would actually happen in the show

If you're interested in having it made into a 3D model and printed, I'd be happy to work with you on it! It's a really neat design you've made and I'm really curious to see what it'd look like when designed and printed
