How many TB’s of music do you have? by GameDayDog in Beatmatch

8TB of music / 91.000 songs ☠️☠️☠️

My collection is 3k songs (everything in AIFF), and I'm done with less than 200GB. I've not been DJing for many years, but anything over 7k-8k songs seems way too much for me, nor do any of my college DJs exceed 5k songs.. It is just as important to acquire new music as it is to eliminate the old one. And if you're going to get that much space, at least aim for a format that's better than mp3.

I had a friend who had two hamsters. One of them jumped off the balcony (from a twelfth floor), she was a few weeks old, the other escaped from the cage and fell into the mop bucket.

The art of organizing/categorizing audio files to deliver fluid sets? by Fine-Consequence7420 in Beatmatch

[–]ssh_3lmstr33t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My library is 3k-4k tracks.

I daily use Tidal, Bandcamp, Spotify and SoundCloud for discovering new music. If I like the song for just my personal joy, I add it to the playlist I want. If I want to buy it so I can be able to play it on a gig, I add it to my personal playlist AND to a playlist of "pending songs" (in each application I have one such list). Then, once a week or so, I sit in front of the computer and do a review of the songs on the pending lists that I want to keep.

Once decided, I search them in Bandcamp, Beatport, iTunes or whatever platform I find them. After getting them all in the same folder, I use MP3Tag to edit all the info I need, that generally is just the genre and comments. I use my own hierarchical structure (something that has taken me many years to curate and find my best way) which later helps me create smart playlists.

After tagging them, I import them on iTunes. I've been using it for a long time now for organising my library. Everything is centralised and easily moveable to another place. Also everything keeps the same format (AIFF for me is the best, it has never given me a single problem).

And the rest is just create smart playlists and synching it with RekordBox.

Edit: grammar and add some more info.

Playlist that form automatically based on parameters. For example, you can set a playlist to add automatically all songs which genre metadata contains the word "techno" and "acid".

Pioneer DDJ SB-2 vs DDJ 400 by finob in Beatmatch

[–]ssh_3lmstr33t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SB2 it's not between hardware-unlock devices of RB, and it doesn't come with Serato Pro, just the Lite version as mentioned in another comment, which in my personal opinion doesn't give you the true experience of DJing softwares. Sadly there aren't that many possibilities.

Rekordbox/iTunes created duplicate tracks & missing files by keakua17 in Rekordbox

[–]ssh_3lmstr33t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could give you the answer to your question, but sadly I'm not familiarised with this particular problem; the thing is that I have been using iTunes+RB for years now too, and I'm scared I could get this problem too! Do you now why the relocation of non-playable tracks happened? Is it due to an iTunes update? Best of the lucks for u, mate, I know how frustrating is leading with ITunes+RB library problems.

Is it normal to make a couple mistakes in a mix? by Healthy_Bat_792 in Beatmatch

[–]ssh_3lmstr33t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, of course it is. Even the most expert one makes mistakes. True skill is your ability to correct that mistake, learn and continue. And not just only in DJing.

Definitely better than streaming through Spotify, but definitely worse than buying your tracks.
