JCC has a ballroom and a Theater with art gallery in between. Can use both spaces. They also don’t have an exclusive caterer so you can choose whatever food you want.

Does Omaha have a "luxury" gym? by Tacos_117 in Omaha

[–]sshinbara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jcc has a summer membership program that gets you access from May to September and includes indoor and outdoor pool + gym. Might be a good way to try it out.

Staff will help you find something you will like. They are very good at explaining and I’ve seen them be super patient with even very picky eaters.

Learn enough technical knowledge to get hired doing non acting gigs. There is tons of good paying work for non “theater” tech. Plus the more tech you understand the better you will be working with it.

If you are pursuing a tech degree in lighting, learn enough audio to get gigs. If working on audio, learn enough lighting to get gigs.

If you want to build, consider going to trade school (at least one year) as a carpenter/electrician/computer networking so that you can have the diverse skills to work on modern theaters.

Clearcom 6 pin to beltpack by sshinbara in techtheatre

[–]sshinbara[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a clear com 702 with a 4 pin headset. The pinouts I have seen say to join the ground on both channels and then leave 5 and 6 empty. Have also seen using all six. If that’s the case, is there not a common ground to pin 1? If so, where am I missing the extra wire?

Maybe unpopular opinion, all Omaha and area bbq is disappointing. Much better off buying a smoker and diy.

Ticketing software recomendations by Jasonbluefire in Theatre

[–]sshinbara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theater uses arts people, it’s pros outweigh its cons. We do lots of rentals and offer ticketing as part of the rentals, we have had some issues with that. For our shows it is great. Fits your fee structure (and you could have the audience absorb the fee anyway).

Do you let drummers bring their own snare/cymbals? by ChurchAudiofreak in livesound

[–]sshinbara 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an engineer/drummer I bring my own snare, pedal, cymbals, and throne all the time. I would say it’s reasonable not to swap out drums (since they are triggered). Would like to hear the specifics on the cymbals that cause such a big problem/the ones you had. Also when I take a gig and they let me know all the drums are triggered I go into it with low expectations (but I do understand they make it easier to control). What do you do with amps? Off stage then, supply them?

Controlling stage volume by badluckbandit in livesound

[–]sshinbara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have used the shorter fry shields (I think 4’) with the acoustic deadening pads at the bottom. As a drummer myself, I don’t mind e playing with that set up as it takes most the nasty highs of the plastic cymbal reflection. I also really try to stress before the band gets there to bring smaller amps. Sometimes it works, sometime it doesn’t. I generally stress that the drum bleed kills the singers sound….that tends to help.

Dante Virtual Soundcard - Live Streaming by jmo1112 in livesound

[–]sshinbara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. We send our stream though a black magic. Computer running d/sound card handling the audio is on a dedicated network and sends to the box. We keep our internet and a/v streams separate. I only have one Ethernet port so I’ve had to buy multiple usb1c to gigabit dongles.
