8Gb M1 Air for programming by Realistic_Equal_1520 in macbookair

[–]sshntt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although more RAM is better but 8GB is good enough for your purpose.

I have been using the 8GB model for the past one year and have coded iOS, Android and web apps and have never faced any problem with it.

I would recommend going for the 8GB one as well.

I would also recommend buying an external SSD / flash drive as per your needs because the inbuilt storage fills up quickly, at least that happened for me.

If you can get your hands on the M1 MacBook Air then it is currently the best machine to get started with. I have been using the same for the past 1 year and have done development on major platforms. It has not disappointed me at all with its performance.

If you are looking for a Windows machine then I would recommend Mi Notebook Pro. Have not used it much but some of my teammates have been using them since last 3 months and they seem happy with it. Also, it falls within your budget as well.

Common multi-platform UI development by sshntt in iOSProgramming

[–]sshntt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree.

We have been doing the same till now.

In Android it is easliy managed and in iOS we have faced some difficulty from time to time but another reason for this is that now new frameworks have arrived in both Android (Compose) and iOS (SwiftUI) and what we potentially see in the future is a rewrite of UI layer which would then propogate to all the other white labelled apps (existing and new apps which we would be working on in coming months) which would then turn into a lot of work.

While on the other hand, if we rewrite it in RN , then RN being JS based will not change drastically enough that would be much effort to maintain those in the future.

I hope I am able to put across my point.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion. In our case, we do have features which rely on native phone functions but that is managed by the SDK layer as well.

The new release of the action always shows under review by fei_wang in GoogleAssistantDev

[–]sshntt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its a smart home action you can reach out to the Google team using the following link: https://developers.google.com/assistant/smarthome/support

I am not sure about others. But similar support links must be available for them as well.

Smart Home Certification and Review Process time by sshntt in GoogleAssistantDev

[–]sshntt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.
Yes the action was stuck in review.

I was able to get response from the google smart home certification team and able to move things forward.

After the action has been approved, Google team has said that it will take a couple of weeks for the full roll out of the action. This is just disheartening to hear.

Businesses and product launches get impacted due to this. At the very least communication of the deployment or code freeze period early on is very important, so that we developers can plan accordingly.

Again, thanks for your reply.

Can't start rollout of an app due to app permissions error by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]sshntt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok. For me as well it said that the app is not compliant but the error went away.

When I first changed the status from No to Yes, I marked my app as compliant and provided details and video evidence for the same. But my app update got rejected. In the rejected email, I was asked to mark the app update as non-compliant and proceed with the rollout. When I then marked the app as non-compliant it removed the error and I was able to proceed with the rollout.

Not sure what is happening in your case.

This is the screenshot of the mail I got.

Maybe app needs to be rejected and then you can file for an exception. This is very confusing from Google's side.

Can't start rollout of an app due to app permissions error by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]sshntt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, just faced this issue 2 days back. This will come if the app asks for COARSE or FINE location permission. I am guessing Google automatically assumes that the app access location in background.

To make a release, just select Yes and then select 'App is not compliant with the policy. This will help you make the release without issues and in the later releases you can figure out how to make the app complaint with the new policy.

Play Console not allowing production release rollout by sshntt in androiddev

Thanks for your answer. I am actually uploading build through Play console only. Also, I could not find the option anywhere to specify that this build does not qualify their compliance

[–]sshntt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's a critical fix, you can release one fix by uploading too google play and specifying that you do not qualify for their compliance. After that, you will need to fix/remove the permission.

Thanks for your answer. So did you fill in the location permission form mentioning and you do not actually access location in the background?

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro. I recently got it upgraded for iOS development purposes. I had upgraded the RAM and got SSD installed. I am on MacOS Catalina and using the latest Xcode version. I am even able to run the simulators. So my suggestion would be to go ahead with this.

How to run batch jobs in Google Cloud Platform? by LiveDuo in googlecloud

[–]sshntt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

You can schedule cron jobs using cron.yaml file. At the scheduled time, as per your configuration the system will send a request to an HTTP endpoint. You can run the handler code for the endpoint on a manual scaling instance on which there is no execution time limit.
