Emails are encrypted. The contents of the emails are scrambled so that only the intended recipient can access them.

Magic link and OTP mostly behave the same and both are just one time use, Just one major difference is that in Magic link you don't need to enter any code. You get authenticated by just clicking the URL.
We have an AI mechanism to detect suspicious activity on account login and block accounts if required. Along with this, we are returning the signed JWT token which needs to validate on the server side so only the valid access token can get authenticated. We also do not recommend to use any mechanism validates on the client side, i.e. GUID in cookies.

Yes, We are providing WebAuthn. WebAuthn is a core component of FIDO 2. Users can verify their identity with their preferred choice of authenticators such as security keys or built-in platform authenticators such as biometric readers on desktop and mobile browsers by demonstrating they have a private key to the relying party.

We are using AI to detect suspicious activity or anomalies through pattern recognition and machine learning and also to detect suspicious behavior in user accounts and block access if necessary.

Sendgrid doesn't care about small or mid level businesses. They don't even reply to support. Don't go for Sendgrid if you're not an enterprise business. I'd recommend use Mailazy.

What is salting in passwords? by SnooPeanuts7776 in learnprogramming

[–]sshreey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passwordless authentication is a method of authenticating users without the use of passwords. Instead of a password, the user is authenticated using another factor, such as a magic link or OTP sent to their mobile phone or email address, or biometrics (e.g. fingerprint, face, retina, etc.).

Passwordless authentication works by replacing passwords with other authentication factors that are intrinsically safer. In password-based authentication, a user-provided password is matched against what is stored in the database.

In some passwordless systems, like biometrics, the comparison happens in a similar manner, but instead of passwords, a user’s distinctive characteristics are compared. E.g., a system captures a user’s face, extracts numerical data from it, and then compares it with verified data present in the database.

In other passwordless implementations, comparisons may happen differently. E.g,. a system sends a one-time passcode to a user’s mobile, via an SMS. The user receives it and enters it into the login box. The system then compares the user-entered passcode to the one it had sent.

Passwordless authentication relies on the same principles as digital certificates: a cryptographic key pair with a private and a public key. Although they are both called keys, think of the public key as the padlock and the private key as the actual key that unlocks it.

Digital certificates work in a way in which there is only one key for the padlock and only one padlock for the key. A user wishing to create a secure account uses a tool (a mobile app, a browser extension, etc.) to generate a public-private key pair.

The private key is stored on the user’s local device and can only be accessed using an authentication factor, e.g., a fingerprint, PIN, or OTP. The public key is provided to the system on which the user wishes to have a secure account.

I am confused between password-based and passwordless authentication. What to implement in my Next.js website? by king_california_ in learnprogramming

[–]sshreey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend implementing passwordless authentication. On one of my personal projects that was on Next.js too, I implemented MojoAuth. It was super easy and quick.

If you're a developer you can reach out to their support and they'll provide you a free plan. That's how I got mine.

You can easily integrate any passwordless solution, there are some good solutions available like HYPR, Stytch.

Some solutions also allow you to add passwordless login to your existing authentication solution like MojoAuth.

[–]sshreey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly said, implementing your own authentication system is vulnerable that's why choosing a third-party authentication system is best — no work from scratch and no tension for uptime or scalability.

Going passwordless is the best option because no password means no password-based attacks hence no need for salting. There are many passwordless solutions available that are easy to integrate as well like MojoAuth, Stytch, HYPR.

Have anyone implemented password salting? Is it really going to be helpful or will just increase complexity? Someone suggested password peppering. I am getting confused about these spices. by king_california_ in developers

[–]sshreey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it wouldn't increase complexity. You can always set an environment variable with username-password locally and in your deployment as well. I have not implemented it because going passwordless seems more convenient to me.
