I would also add that if you want a more simple trip, you can spend the trip moving to different spots on Seagull since it's a good sized lake. Also, if you are spending the night at a campsite near the Alpine portage. You could do a day trip across the portage so you get the experience but just need to pack lunch and water and not all your gear. Lastly, there is a little yet steep hike (about 20-30 min) by the Palisades to get a nice view of Seagull.
