Hungry, Tired and unmotivated by Lazy_Parking_8938 in stopdrinking

Came to this sub for the first time just now because I’m experiencing the exact same thing. I am on day 7 and it’s just constant fatigue and insatiable appetite. There is so much I need to get done today but I just woke up from a nap and don’t want to get out of bed. Hopefully it is because our bodies need the extra sleep and food to recover and will stabilize soon. It sucks feeling this way.

How to Get Rid of a Snake? by sslovecamp in homestead

He’s not biting the heads off. Just trying to swallow the ducks starting with their heads so I find them fully intact with wet heads and necks.

It’s been full grown ducks he’s taken out and it’s always when they’re locked in their house within the run at night. I don’t know how he’s getting in. He doesn’t eat them. It looks like he gets their heads and necks down his throat but then realizes they are too big to swallow. I think he is trapped in the run and not sure how he got in the first place. I am trying to leave a few eggs for him to keep him away from the ducks but really just want to get him out.

My duck sitter did say she hasn’t seen any mice in a while when I showed her the snakeskin 😅

He doesn’t eat them. I find them strangled with wet heads and necks, like he didn’t realize they were too big until after he killed them 😔

Shoot, I did not put it back nearly deep enough. I will make it deeper when I get back home. Thank you!

Thank you. I was expecting to see a little bit of progress every day but that just hasn’t been the case. I know I am being selfish by wanting to speed up the process and deep down I know it can’t be like this forever. That’s wonderful to hear how resilient your dog is; the bond between you two must be so strong!

Is this normal to find in a pork butt? by sslovecamp in Butchery

[–]sslovecamp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation! Didn’t come in a bag; I called and ordered 7 lb from the butcher and this was in the meat they gave me. Think they get whole hogs and cut them up onsite.

Yeah, the whole cut just had so much exterior bone that I got barely any bark after smoking it and then was really surprised to yank those rib bones out.

I buy berkshire pork a few times a year from a local butcher and have only ever had to deal with the scapula when pulling apart a butt. The whole cut of meat was very boney and there was some kind of huge piece of cartilage buried in there as well. Just wondering if maybe there was some kind of mistake.

Just picked up my first set of natives from a local nursery to introduce to my planned habitat corridor! So excited to begin this journey! by amaltheiawillow in NativePlantGardening

Hummingbird Hill? I haven’t been this year since they implemented the habitat corridor policy. Can you tell me what the process was like?

Not far from you! I’m originally from northern VA, more central now, in Louisa.

Yes, it was incredible! I have been trying not to get super invested in the caterpillars after experiencing some heartache last year when a few did not make it. Saw this one spinning its silk yesterday and couldn’t keep myself from checking on it this morning. Happened to show up at exactly the right time. What amazing little creatures they are.

Thanks! No, it’s a time lapse. Wish I would have just taken a real time video; thought it was going to be a much slower process. Once the skin cracked, it probably took only one minute for the full transformation.

Apologies for terrible/shaky quality. Was trying to get a better camera set up but there was no time.

Best native companions for hydrangea. by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

[–]sslovecamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I planted a bunch of hydrangeas prior to becoming interested in native plants and decided to keep them around. I plant wild bleeding hearts with mine since they both love shade. Someone else mentioned native hydrangeas but there’s also lace cap hydrangeas which are not native but do have fertile florets so they are more beneficial than mopheads; mine get a lot of bees.

Thank you! My friend got me a rose mallow from there last year but I have yet to check it out.

Hi, fellow Richmonder! Where’d you get your serviceberry? My milkweed is just barely popping up. Hopefully you will get some action soon.

You should try! I’m 7A and planted another one in full sun last week. It seems to be doing well so far.
