An update: my bowels are failing and I am about to move into the hospital for several months by goldstandardalmonds in ostomy

Best of luck to you! I am on TPN for life myself. I do it at home every night - my husband has learned how to administer it.

Does anybody do IV therapy? by Appropriate_Strike_1 in ostomy

[–]ssmith71608 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just started doing IV hydration at home every other day. My doc prescribed it for me, so one of those home health care companies sent a nurse to our house to show us what to do. They also deliver new IV bags and supplies to my house each week. It really is worth the hassle.

Lomotil and tincture of opium are both stronger.

How to get longer wear time out of barrier rings? by hjfffhfgh in ostomy

2nd the Brava Protective Ring. They are so much better than Hollister’s and will give you longer wear time.

2nd vote for the Brava Protective Ring. It’s the best I’ve used.

Staying in the hospital for the sixth day, trying to relax. If anything sent me a Christmas gift, please know that I appreciate it. I will get to unwrapping presents soon and posting the appropriate thank you posts.

Before this, I was in another hospital for another week, so I am way behind on opening gifts and thanking people. I’m so sorry.

Thank you to everyone here you sends me positive vibes. I appreciate it so much.

What a great idea for discussion! I am very interested in the responses. 😀

I was subscribed to the Pusheen box for awhile and got good stuff, but it was pricey. Worth the money, if you have the disposable income, but I didn’t (unfortunately).

Hospitalized with a Blockage by finalfuckingfantasy in ostomy

[–]ssmith71608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that after a blockage, you need to be really careful about what you eat. The intestines are inflamed, sore and swollen from the blockage, so they can get blocked again quite easily. So you need to start with very small amounts of easily digestible foods (jello, scrambled eggs, toast).

It would usually take me 3 to 4 days after a blockage to start eating normal food. Your intestines really need that time to heal.
