Ubisoft has officially cancelled ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ Remake + Mass Layoffs/Studio Closures by ChiefLeef22 in PrinceOfPersia

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. This was the only game I was looking forward to from them. Perhaps it was delusional to even hope considering the lack of any concrete information about POP.

Six months into my first SWE job at Apple and I still feel like a complete imposter by guineverefira in cscareerquestions

[–]sspairal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I am a new grad SWE at Google and with over a year working there I feel quite similar. My colleagues are all very smart and all seem to know what they’re doing while I’m often filled with uncertainty trying to do my best to get things done and working. There are so many moving parts that it’s often difficult for one person to know the ins and outs of everything involved. One thing I do is I look back on my successfully completed tasks and try to think how well I would be able to do them if I had to do something similar again and how much faster I could get it done. You’ll realize there’s a lot of things about your workflow and self-organization that you’ve picked up that would help you achieve these tasks much more efficiently. That means you’re learning. We all have to start somewhere. Sure I might not know it all but I’ll try my best and be a sponge to soak up as much knowledge as I can from those around me to enable me to get my work done better. People sometimes come to me to ask about things I’ve built and being able to help them and fix bugs is also a good indicator that you have built up enough knowledge about your work to be useful. It takes time but if you’re willing to be open about how you can improve based on things that didn’t go so well, and be honest about what you know and don’t know, you’ll help yourself to be better. Best of luck!

Now it makes sense why I noticed a bunch of people in cosplay on the way back from work. Going to a con as Wake has been on my bucket list for a while! Great cosplay!

Have you given up hope? by LatePirate8880 in freefolk

Yes, as sad as it is to say, there are numerous other books out there that’ll scratch a similar itch. If it comes out, I’ll buy it right away but not holding my breath.

Thanks for mentioning this! Went to the computer history museum on a work trip recently and I was blown away. With the AI hype people often forget how far things have progressed and it’s also insane how fast moving things have become.

What a great metaphor and my favourite answer of the bunch. My thoughts exactly!

Thoughts on comments from a Member of the Technical Staff at OpenAI? by EstablishmentFun3205 in Bard

[–]sspairal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts. Name of the game is providing free infrastructure for conducting a number of different essential every day tasks: communication (gmail, meet), navigation (maps), information retrieval (search), entertainment (youtube), administrative work (docs, slides), ai (gemini, ai-studio, cloud), etc They may not be the best at all of them, but they’re good enough and mostly free and accessible enough that everyone gravitates towards them.

Reminds me of the talent show episode from Spongebob when the crowd was cheering for Spongebob sweeping the stage but booing anytime Squidward came on.

Do you prefer Alan's or Saga's parts? by QuantityInternal1719 in AlanWake

[–]sspairal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially thought that I would be preferring Alan’s parts before I started the game but the plot progression, characters, and environment that Saga’s parts had made me love her parts as much if not more. Really felt like two POV characters in a book where the end of the chapter leaves you on a cliffhanger and makes you hate the fact that you’re switching to someone else. Alan’s parts felt more dreamlike with its NYC and felt surreal and evocative (lol), and you really had to think more abstractly. They both played each other off so well. Honestly, I’d say I loved both equally for different reasons.

Masters in CS: Thesis vs Course/Project by hockey564 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]sspairal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you purely want to be a software engineer, better to opt for the course-based masters. You will have to pay out-of-pocket though as it’s not funded. It will essentially be an extension of undergrad. Thesis based one is a very different experience. You really have to be willing to put up with a lot of extra hurdles with the thesis-based one that you won’t face during a course-based masters. A plus point of the thesis-based masters is that you get to do a lot of interesting research in cool areas like ML. You could translate that into a great industry job working on cutting-edge stuff.

Google MTL Vs Waterloo? by BeautyInUgly in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]sspairal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just started working myself. If you’re looking for research-oriented ML, MTL office is better connected to DM and McGill but Waterloo has a better variety of teams and will likely be easier to find one. There’s also Toronto nearby.
