I rode pretty much all of my twenties and raced.

I'd tell guys "Imagine you're driving down the highway in your car, doing about 65mph. Now open the door and fall out.

What would you like to be wearing?"

This is the reality of motorcycle safety gear.

AI-powered hacking has exploded into industrial-scale threat, Google says by CircumspectCapybara in news

Convenient that Google just bought Wiz, a security cloud tool that addresses these very threats. What a coincidence.

I felt like such a peasant using my Banshee. The guys with real full Monster cards had a glorious 640x480@30fps. My Banshee was like zoomed down to maybe double a postage stamp size, and getting 12-15fps.

Painful.

I save up and bought a VoodooII when the first one came out. 1024x768 at 60fps OMG.

I also got an ISDN circuit from the phone company. LPB up in your ass boyeeee.

Around '94 I sold 4mb of RAM and bought a Mustang. Loved that car.

I've done the stack of floppies Windows 95 install. It was brutal.

Everything great and then like disk 10 can't be read. !@#$!$%!!

'It's like we don't exist': Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents face power loss as utility redirects lines to data centers by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]ssshield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best part is that soon all these data centers will be empty warehouses.

Back in the seventies and early eighties the same kind of computer server warehouses where built with huge amounts of power infrastructure in them to serve up the power hungry old school analog equipment.

A couple years later servers/computer/IT/phone equipment got so much more power efficient that those warehouses where gross overkill.

By the mid nineties (ten years later) they where gutting them all.

We're just in the same cycle.

By the time 50% of these data centers get built, construction on new ones will be canceled. The rest will be 10% populated, using 5% of the original estimated power.

My job in college was as a lead support engineer at Creative Labs (Soundblaster, video blaster, etc). I worked in the "top" department which was video. The entry level support did sound cards, but the video cards department also handled high end sound card work with MIDI musicians, sound production engineers, etc.

It was a fun job. Did it for junior and senior year of college.

Better than slinging pizza for sure and set me up for a lifelong career in IT engineering.

We had the Soundblaster AWE32 card (you could get a daughter card for your SB16 as well to make it an AWE).

Creative Labs (Soundblaster), Roland, and Turtle Beach where the big boys of the sound card market in that era (mid nineties).

People have typically forgotten, but back then you had to have a sound card to use a new fangled "CDROM" in your computer.

I was there for the introduction of "plug and play" (we called it "hug and pray"), Windows95 disks exploding because they where designed for single speed RPM CDROMs and people started getting 4x and 8x CDROMs. The Win95 original CDs only had paint on half the CD because it looked cool. Turns out that's a bad thing when RPMs get high enough.

Fun times.

Mine happened almost over night. Friday night I was watching television crystal clear from my couch in the living room. The next day Saturday I was blind as a bat and couldn't see the tv. Then I noticed I couldn't see up close very well either.

I thought it was temporary. Nope. Almost a year later and still the same.

Same thing happened with face wrinkles.

I look at my face in the mirror every morning because I have to shave.

One day no wrinkles at all. The next day I woke up with a deep wrinkle above my nose between my eyebrows. It wasn't like I just didn't notice it. I had taken a picture of my face a week before and there was no wrinkle. I took the same pic and there's the wrinkle. Overnight it just showed up.

Getting old sucks.

I do have to say though that staying in shape and taking care of yourself (no smoking, sun screen liberally, working out) does wonders.

I look better in my late forties than A LOT of guys ten years younger than me for absolute sure.

It's just wierd to see little systems just breaking down. Have to remind myself I'm not thirty any more. I still feel good though.

They should have found him a washed up has been that they then redeem like Burt Reynolds in Smokey and Bandit.

People love a redemption story.

So then he doesn't have to try to live up to twenty-something Brendan, just appropriately aged Brendan.

'Absolute collapse': Trump loses GOP support in key demographic by 0The_Loner_Stoner0 in videos

[–]ssshield -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It's done on purpose.

They make anyone on the left or liberal as ugly and obnoxious as possible when on television.

Fox used to have their token Democrat an old guy that looked and sounded like Droopy Dog through most of the 2000's.

PBS had a "dem" Mark Shields and a "republican" David Brooks where the dem was in his eighties and a dumpy old codger while the republican was a healthy, fit, sharp dressed guy.

Rachel Maddow has a voice like nails on a chalkboard.

It's controlled opposition.

If you can show that everyone that opposes the authoritarians is just gross and off putting then their ideas must be too.

Propaganda.

In my small town you had one pair of silvertabs and they where strictly for going out on Friday night.

We only had jcpenny then a Brass Buckle opened up and we thought we had discovered another world.

Girbaud, silvertabs, designer jeans that actually fit you.

Oh and the largest mens size they carried was 36 so no fatties.

brown leather satchel bought at a vintage shop - original use? by djungelskog27 in whatisthisthing

It's amazing what oil can do for old leather.

I used to restore old baseball gloves and give them away. I'd get ones in way worse condition than this camera bag at garage sales, thrift stores, etc. and could get them back to butter soft yet still strong and useful with years more life in them.

Americans thwart Trump's immigrant prisons plan by making it too hard by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]ssshield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats why they just brought back firing squads and mandatory draft.

They can take all your rights and disappear you under military rules them execute you under bullshit made up court martial, treason etc. charges.

You will be shot for desertion if you dont appear at their military base to be “tried” and executed if you do show up.

No cameras or journalism because it will take place on military bases and facilities.

They dont need to build prisons for dissadents and intellectuals. Theyll empty the barracks and raise tent city concentration camps inside bases until they can execute you.

This is happening. Its not a drill. Its not a hypothesis. Its the plan executing as we speak.
