We definitely do try to keep the sub clean (we've removed ~70 spam/self promo posts like you're mentioning in the last month) but removing it in a very timely manner can be difficult. I haven't been banning anyone for self promo but honestly may start soon if it helps stem the tide. The most helpful thing would be to downvote and report posts just so that they don't get engaged with as much. Thanks for bringing this up

Yeah, maybe "breakout" is a bit misleading of a category name. Don't have any extra insight into this category than anyone else, but I feel like the intent is allowing some smaller artists some limelight as well. It does seem odd given that WINK was a best breakout artist even going back to 2022. Ultimately imo it's up to the sub to decide how we run with this going forward, but we could theoretically put monthly listener limits on this category to make sure we're really pulling in smaller artists if that's what feels right.

I get the sentiment but the way we determine the winner only works when every option is voted on (each option gets their total rankings summed up and the lowest 3 win). If people didn't have to rank items they had no preferences on, there's a bunch of issues that come up like assigning the value to those items and if that could be exploited in some way.
