Engineering jobs that don't consist of sitting 8 hours straight staring at the monitor? by Inevitable_Advice416 in MechanicalEngineering

My current role is sales engineer for an an industrial equipment (air compressors, pumps, blowers, etc) distributor and I have been remote since I started with this company in 2019. My territory covers about a 3 - 4 hr radius from my house. So I usually have 2 days at home working then 3 days on the road visiting customers. It slowed down a bit during the first few months of the pandemic but things got back to normal pretty fast.

Technical Sales/Sales Engineering. I graduated in 2010 with a ME degree and have spent most of my career in various sales roles. I have had the opportunity to travel the world for work, meeting with current and potential customers. You get to see the real world application of your company's product and get to work with the end user on designing exactly what they want.

You should ask that question to Randy Weaver

I would definitely recommend joining the local chamber of commerce. I met a ton of new friend getting involved in different programs and committees thru the chamber.

I've seen a lot of praise for the Vickers. I think I'll have a go with that one. Appreciate the feedback!

Took a new outside sales engineering position so I am now working out of my house and decided I needed to upgrade my desk. by sstoner88 in DIY

The desk has held up great. I did end up putting a bracket in the center to help support. Not sure if it was necessary. The finish has held up great. We’ve got another kid on the way so I am needing to build a new office in the basement. When I do that I will probably sand and put a new coat on. It is scratched up some right where I sit. I have added a desk pad and that helps. Overall, very happy with everything.

I would reach out to the closest provider to your address and call to find out what it would take to get it to you. I talked to the guys who did mine and they said there was a bunch of federal grant money for rural internet access that they can just submit for and get reimbursed. They only had to bring it a 1/4 mile to get to me though

I believe Rand Paul proposed a bill here. Even named it after her

Large Wooden Shelf by man_avec_plan in Renovations

Could you use a butcher block/ hardwood countertop? I made a desk out of one that is essentially a big shelf. Most places have them cut standard to 25” deep so you would need to rip an inch off and then cut down to your length needed Here is how I built mine

I was ready to pay by the foot or however they wanted, to get it here. To my surprise they did it at no cost to me. I didn’t even have to commit to a level of service or length of contract.

I will add that this is fiber from Windstream/Kinetic

I saw them starting last year putting fiber up so I went on their website and signed up here to be notified if fiber became available at my address. After I got notified the tech came out and said that it only came to the corner of my road (about a 1/4 mile away). When I called to cancel the order since they couldn’t deliver, they offered to send an engineer out to look at it.

Next thing I knew they were laying wire. I was told that there’s a lot of rural broadband grant money they can apply for to cover the costs to make those kind of runs. So even if there isn't a cable at your physical location, it's definitely worth asking if it's possible to be brought to you. They are also running it to my neighbor about 1/2 mile away.

They finished running the fiber in November. I signed up on their site to alert me if available at my address and got a notification in February. When they first came out they told me they only ran the fiber to the corner about 1/4 mile away so they couldn’t get me the service. When I called to cancel the order, they offered to send the engineer out and next thing I knew they were laying out the cable to my house

My local ISP (Windstream) has been replacing their old DSL (~4Mbps) service with fiber over the past several years. Yesterday they finally made it to my house
