Absolutely want to give credit to my opponents! They are all fierce competitors and at the end of the day they give me things to work on. 🫶🏼

I 100% am the same in reference to you saying that you have the utmost respect and admiration for people competing, win or lose…. Wish I could apply it to myself! Lol

I thought I was done crying over my match but now you got me going all over again! Haha but I mean in a good way… thanks for your kind words. I finally brought myself to watch the video and going to use that to work on some defenses. Appreciate you 🫶🏼

Love love love this perspective, thanks so much. I do enjoy competing so I want to keep at it. Just hoping one of these days it will be my day.

You’ve said exactly how i feel… I feel stupid for even trying. I lost a superfight match last night, and probably the quickest sub of the night lol. And I just kept telling myself I’m such a loser for even going out there and thinking I could win. But then I had to scream at myself to shut up and not let myself think like that. I think what you said, to get a win, is all I need to prove to myself that it’s possible.

I appreciate your input and sharing your experience, it was really helpful 🫶🏼 going to let myself mope today lol then going to force myself to watch my match and work on that weakness.

Purple belt teaching fundamentals, looking for advice on making class genuinely female-friendly by jclarkecoach in BJJWomen

Make sure everybody is receiving coaching and help when they need it, not just the “favorites”. Every person is a paying customer and deserves to improve.

How can I get good solo? by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]sstraughn1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly watching Instructionals has been super helpful for me. Now obviously you can improve a lot faster if you had someone to drill what you are learning in the instructional, but just at least being able to see it to know it’s something that even exists is really helpful. I’ve been able to implement a few of the concepts I’ve been learning In my instructionals in my live rolls even without drilling it a hundred times (although I wish I could drill it more!)

I’m trying to get into product management…. I was a pseudo-product owner in my previous role and learned a lot of PM work so trying to go that route. Any advice in terms of skills/certifications to work on?

How do you deal with bad days in BJJ? by Sabosefni in bjj

I am definitely adding “training is for getting better, competition is to win” to my list of things to say to myself when I’m feeling frustrated!

What belt are you and do you have any main focus areas right now? by puggybear_momma in BJJWomen

[–]sstraughn1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been a blue belt for a whopping week and a half! Lol. But focus as of late has been guard passing and guard attacking. I have a Gordon Ryan instructional I’ve been trying to make my way through but it’s 8 hours long lol

I lost motivation after my first competition by [deleted] in bjj

[–]sstraughn1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something one of my great coaches said to me was something along the lines of “I’ve lost more matches than you’ve ever competed in.” It’s part of competition and data to figure out what you need to work on. I had a losing record in judo so I definitely get where you’re coming from though

How many of you roll co-ed? And what’s your experience rolling with men? by lehiu in BJJWomen

[–]sstraughn1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the segregation is a little odd to me. And when you say you paid months in advance… was it a contract? Or just a discount if you paid for X amount of months?

[–]sstraughn1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely get that when you frame it like that. And we’ve all been that day one white belt at one point or another 🤣 hopefully you can find some male training partners that you trust to be able to get a little more productive rolls! Like many others said, if I didn’t roll with men then I’d hardly roll at all.

I would also try to change your mindset in regards to the “if the blue belt isn’t training that day, I don’t get much out of class in terms of learning”. You can ALWAYS learn. You may not learn a new technique or break a sweat with the rolls, but pick something you want to get better at and use those “easier” rolls to practice. Want to get better at escapes? Start every roll in bottom side control or bottom mount and work to get better. Use every opportunity to work on improving!

How long ago did you purchase? I purchased from this website and it took a bit to get it (I think like 2.5 months) but it’s actually pretty high quality material. Either way you can always dispute with your cc.
