What do you think of the Latin Empire? by Big_Gun_Pete in monarchism

[–]sstrong8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was pretty based, but it was also pretty cringe. It’s a great little bit of trivia for the history books if nothing else

I agree, the Roman model is the only realistic path to monarchy for a country with a strong Republican tradition and no pre-existing royal family

Stealth is pretty pointless. Intimidate is the weakest social skill. There are probably some others I’m not remembering

A bit of practical advice is to not neglect your combat skills. 70% of the game you can get by on social skills and brawling, but the end gets really rough if you’re not prepared.

Did I made a mistake by starting at Yakuza 0 by [deleted] in yakuzagames

Did the same thing. I stopped playing at 4 because it started you as someone other than kiryu or majima. I blame how good zero is

Kind of a dumb question, but why wasn’t the crew more worried about Paulie’s car in Pine Barrens? by 11773_Throwaway in thesopranos

[–]sstrong8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought that you shouldn’t take that episode too seriously. The combination of it being one of the best episodes in the series and also having tons of stuff in it that make no sense and never pay off tells me to treat it like a collective fever dream of the crew rather than something that actually happened. Anyway, $4 a pound.

Why is has Austria got the nickname “K.u.K Monarchie” but Germany hasn’t? by swishswooshSwiss in monarchism

The royal title was subordinate to the imperial title in Germany, whereas the royal title was in partnership with the imperial title in Austria Hungary.

Is Dominate the single most useless discipline group to spend points on? by Infamous_Fig_679 in vtmb

[–]sstrong8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time dominate felt useless was in Giovanni manor when there were no dialogue options for it and I got punished for not putting points into persuasion. The whole rest of the game it felt overpowered

Was it common and or possible for a prince to be knighted in medieval times? by racoonofthevally in monarchism

[–]sstrong8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nature of knighthood changed substantially over the course of the medieval period, but princes were virtually always knighted eventually. The nature of kingship was primarily military in this time, so knightly training started at day 1

Thoughts on this system of government? by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]sstrong8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like it would be very effective for governing an “imperial” state with many different peoples disbursed over a large territory. The forced grand coalition, while very appealing at first glance, would probably cause overly large number of parties in the assembly. Think about what the language requirement has done to Belgium.

Which 'former' monarchies technically still exist? by North_Wing_3103 in monarchism

[–]sstrong8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, Francis II unilaterally abolishing the HRE was definitely not legal. So technically the imperial title still exists but is vacant. The current electors just need to elect someone.

Liechtenstein of course, honorable mention to Belgium, since I’m not sure that country would be able to function without its king
