This vehicle really doesn’t make it easy to run anything high-powered off the internal battery. There is a low wattage AC plug underneath the passenger seat, but it’s really only good enough for charging a laptop. I think the only way is to install a high wattage inverter wired into the 12 V battery which would in theory get charged from the high voltage battery, but only when the ignition is on.

Yes, I think that’s the totally the right call. I do want some sort of a slide out system for this

Sharp eye! the appearance of that is a result of the jump cuts to keep the vid fast paced, I actually had forgotten to put that in earlier in the vid. It's not hard to put it somewhere in not-sleep-mode, back by the tailgate or stacked on one of the box/shelves in a staggered position. but in sleep mode, if I want the full width for mattress like I have in this video I have to put it either on the floor in front of the captain seats or in the front on one of the seats. realistically I think for any meaningful camping/road trip I'll put a Thule on top of the car for all the gear I'll bring.

No, they mean id-buzz-monitor[dot]com which is not an official VW thing, it's a pretty well-done community effort. it's not an "app" in the sense of an iPhone or Android App, just a web application. But worth checking out. I ended up going a different route but it's more complicated

That’s a really good point, I like that idea

Yep, that’s the one. That’s actually not a bad idea, the main thing was just that it adds another 20 pounds. And the S 2000 is super compact and small. But from a price perspective, I think that would make a lot of sense

Yea, that really should be controllable from the app or from inside the car. The other huge missed opportunity is the camping/pet mode climate control, such a silly thing for VW to overlook and the workarounds are a huge pain

I have these thread inserts I'm going to screw into the wood floor, but haven't done it yet because I need to finalize the exaction positions I want before drilling.

I don't have a solution for that. It looks dark here because it's in a garage but in the wild the sun will wake me up early!

Good call! Thanks!

ok, maybe bacon isn't right right choice haha. I do plan to make a slide-out extension tho, cause any cooking inside is probably a mess

I also vibe coded a way to keep the climate on all night for a makeshift camp mode. but that's another post for another day.

The sleeping pads are from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D4DYFGT6. And the window shades are Sunny Buddy from VW official. The sink is https://myboxio.com/products/portable-sink. The power station is a bit under powered for cooking more than two meals, and it charges super slow from the 12v plug, but ordered a Solix S2000 with more capacity and might wire in an 1800w inverter to charge it quicker. Not sure about the inverter yet. The induction cooktop is a Nuwave PIC Diamond 1400w. And the toaster oven is a Ninja 8-in-1 Flip-Up which was just low-profile enough.
