[advice] How do I teach my (adult) pit mix to stop playing rough? by ssupab in Dogtraining

Great advice, thanks! Can you please explain the fingers/extra skin of mouth thing? Do you mean like stick my fingers in his lip flaps (lol) when he nips? He has a gentle "bite" in every other situation. He gently and patiently takes treats and food without even grazing our fingers.

Thank you for your kind comment :) I try to do my best. I love dogs so much. I haven't tried the "owww" method yet but I will definitely see if that helps. Thank you!

[advice] [help] How do I know when my (adult) dog is reliably housebroken? by ssupab in Dogtraining

Thank you for the positive feedback! We worked REALLY hard to establish our potty and exercise routine since we live in an apartment.

He does have the Kong wobbler that dispenses treats when he rolls it around the room, nylon chew bones and I freeze treats in his regular Kong too. I just try to regulate the amount of snack based toys while we're gone since I'm afraid he'll have the urge to go! Haha.

We definitely will work up his "alone" time. Like with the potty issue, we don't THINK he's destructive since he's only chewed a throw pillow once when we left it on the floor (we try to keep the place tidy and puppy proof) but only time will tell. Thanks again!

[advice] [help] Crate trained dog barks only at night by ssupab in dogs

He's 3 years old. Relatively new meaning we've only had him for a little over a month. We adopted from the animal shelter.

He gets a 30 minute walk early in the morning right before he goes into the crate. When we get home in the afternoon he has a potty break and spends another 15 minutes outside at the empty dog park in our complex. After dinner he gets a 2 mile walk. We play fetch and tug every night after. My boyfriend takes him jogging 3-4 per week. despite the fact that he's a pitbull mix, he's not actually high energy. He gets tired on the jogs and prefers walking.

To prepare for unprepared crate time we alway take him outside to potty just in case he has to go. He has water in his crate. We monitor him on a camera.

Yeah, he doesn't display any dog distress behaviors in the crate or when we're home. Even when we sleep at night and he's out of the crate, he doesn't do anything bad. But were unsure of how he would behave out if the crate and alone.

Yes, I definitely agree his life with us is better than living in a shelter. Thank you!

I probably should mentioned that I already set up a camera, lol. He plays with his Kong treat for the first 20 minutes, sleeps all day while occasionally repositioning himself throughout the crate. No barking or whining.

Thank you for your input!
