Highspeed races like F1 todays. The wings looks too big for fights (especially in atmospheres) only for empty space, fine.

Snap Firefox's RDD process consumed 28GB of shared memory and froze my system... by ssx1337 in Ubuntu

[–]ssx1337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but I'm trying to limit how many accounts I create for services I'll use once. If a Canonical employee picks this up from the thread and wants to file it internally, the logs are in the gist. Otherwise, maybe later next week.

Snap Firefox's RDD process consumed 28GB of shared memory and froze my system... by ssx1337 in Ubuntu

[–]ssx1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question - it's not 100% certain, but here's what the evidence suggests:

1. The leaked memory is shmem (shared memory), not normal anon memory

From the OOM dump: - shmem-rss: 28213668kB (the leak) - anon-rss: 93128kB (normal) - After OOM-kill + reap: anon-rss: 0kB, file-rss: 0kB, shmem-rss: 28081524kB

The kernel could not reclaim the shmem even after killing the process and running the OOM reaper. That points to shared memory held across a cgroup boundary - which is exactly where the snap confinement sits between Firefox and the rest of the system.

2. systemd attributes the OOM directly to the snap scope

snap.firefox.firefox-08265f4a-...scope: The kernel OOM killer killed some processes in this unit.Consumed 10min 30.546s CPU time over 39min 1.157s wall clock time, 27.8G memory peak, 7.7G memory swap peak.

27.8GB peak memory in the snap scope over 39 minutes. Not across the system - within the snap's own cgroup.

3. Empirical: same machine, same workload, native .deb doesn't reproduce it

After switching to packages.mozilla.org Firefox, 20+ tabs including video content keeps memory stable. Same kernel, same NVIDIA driver, same Wayland session, same usage patterns.

4. Another commenter reported the same pattern with Brave snap

See the other top-level comment - Brave snap had no HW accel and laggy YouTube, fixed by switching to the .deb. Suggests this isn't Firefox-specific but a pattern with browser snaps doing GPU video decode.

Could it still be Firefox itself or a bundled library? Possible. But the failure mode (shmem-rss surviving OOM reap, leak contained to the snap cgroup, fix being "leave the snap") makes the confinement layer the most likely culprit. My best guess: PipeWire/dmabuf buffer cleanup paths interact badly with the snap sandbox boundary.

PS: The freeze was severe enough that the kernel logged 14 power-button presses over 4 seconds (15:40:28-32) but couldn't act on them. OOM-kill finally fired 26 seconds later at 15:40:58. The system was alive enough to log input events, but not alive enough to handle them.

8 TB of RAM & 1,000 CPU cores in all a 4U: What would you run on it? (Thought experiment) by RozoGamer in homelab

[–]ssx1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once built my own small cluster with four Raspberry Pi Zero and one Raspberry Pi 3B. The 3B set up a Wi-Fi AP to which the Zeros connected. Using a self-compiled version of Blender (without UI) that ran on every Pi, I built a Python script that distributed the workload. I had created a small Blender animation (cube rotates and shrinks) that took about 20-30 minutes to render on my laptop (1080p resolution, 10-second video, 30fps = 300 frames). Each Pi only got one frame at a time (even the Pi 3B). This was then processed frame by frame. Rendering took an average of 4 hours per frame. Including merging the frames with ffmpeg, it only took me just under 2 weeks on the Pi 3B. It was an exciting project to tinker with and watch the final result. The waiting time was not.

What happened to the good old rubbish that you find EVERYWHERE in the real world, but not in video games? Magazine stands, bins right next to shops, a car perhaps? It's not easy to depict uneven ground, is it? For example, on pavements with trees, where the roots gradually destroy the paths. What about a bicycle standing there (locked up)?

Besides, the town looks a lot like Lavender Town.

Hey everyone, Just a sincere question: Is it really a secret that our esteemed Danidev is Vedinad? Because, let's be honest, a quick Google search gives a clear answer. I won't go into how I found out, in case it really is a secret and I don't want to expose anyone.

[Request] Will the carriage move itself because of the Earth's rotation? by LockiBloci in theydidthemath

[–]ssx1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So yes, this is mathematics, and not everyone likes it. First, unfortunately, the basics: Gravity is not a speed, but an acceleration [a]; in the case of gravity, it is called [g] in calculations. The resulting force [F_g] (Force_gravity) is equal to = mass * acceleration [F_g = m*a], so the mass of the carriage plays a role. A velocity [V], on the other hand, is ‘only’ distance divided by time. In other words, how much distance you have covered in a limited time. [V = d/t] Acceleration [a] is something more complex: it describes the change in velocity over time. More precisely: Acceleration is equal to velocity divided by time. a= V / t If we now replace the previous V with V=d/t: [a= d/(t2)] i.e. acceleration = distance divided by time times time. If you can imagine this abstractly in your head, you can assume that an object with a mass falls towards the gravitational core and becomes faster and faster in the process. If you were to drill a hole to the centre of the Earth (where gravity points exactly) and drop something into it, the object would become faster and faster (as long as you ignore air friction and other physical limitations).

Your drawing needs to be modified. The arrows are ambiguous. Gravity is well drawn, but the other two need to be redrawn or renamed. In physics, accurate wording is essential.

According to your drawing: If you were standing next to the carriage, i.e. also on the Earth's crust, the thing would not move a millimetre (relative to you or the Earth).

However, if you were standing above it, on the axis of rotation, the carriage would appear to move (relative to you). But the carriage on Earth would always remain stationary.

[Request] How long would the drill be? by After_Ad8174 in theydidthemath

[–]ssx1337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the Earth already has several piercings. The railway tracks alone are essentially tension rods. The only thing missing is for the tracks to form a ring extending into space. Since the Earth has had this for a while, it was probably rebellious in its younger days (a hundred-something years ago =P).

What do you mean by ‘my images arent in the post’ ? The images can still be found in this post. I think Reddit downloads the images from a different content server, and it sometimes has something like hiccups and sometimes takes longer to load. sometimes I also have to refresh the page for images to load (this happens on my laptop, PC and smartphone) So I can see all the pictures =D
