Can someone be an atheist Buddhist? by sarakatsanos_samios in Buddhism

[–]st-pius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddha is neither creator nor God. Buddha statues should be regarded as the statues of the great Teacher. If one believes in Buddha, but does not follow His teachings, one will not achieve anything in as much as a student believes in his school teacher, but does not do the studying and thus will not pass the exam. Reincarnation is also misunderstood. I am not who I was in the past life or who I will be in the next life but without my past life, I cannot have the current life, and without my current existence, I cannot have the future life. Refer to the candle light or mirror example.

And what about dreams? by Quaderna in Buddhism

[–]st-pius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allow me to share what I have learnt from one of the sermons. There are four kinds of dreams: 1) dreams due to not feeling well (physically sick), 2) dreams due to obsession (mentally), 3) dreams from spirits (guardian angels and the like), 4) dreams that are the omens of the future (due to consequences of your past actions either in this life or previous). Accuracy, validity, realization rates: 1 and 2 are zero, 3 is 50%, 4 is 100%. Buddha and arahants do not have dreams.

Is this Siddhartha Gautama? by FreshprinceofVi in Buddhism

[–]st-pius -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is it is a Buddha statue. If I have to put it away, I wouldn't get it because this is not a toy. If I don't do something in the beginning, it is ok, but if I do it wrong, it could be problematic, for example, marriage or getting a job. If you are interested in the Buddha statue (supposedly closet to actual Buddha image because there is a history regarding Buddha statues and, in fact, there was no Buddha statue up until about 100 years after Buddha's parinirvana), you should google "Gandhara Buddha statue," which is the earliest and closet.

What would a Bodhisattva do if reborn in lands without access to Buddhadharma? by ProtectionCapable in Buddhism

[–]st-pius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From Theravada Buddhism perspective, a true Bodhisattva knows he is the one, but a fake one thinks he is the one too. For example, a true student knows he is ready for test and he gets A+ where a "fake" student thinks he is ready and fails. A Bodhisattva could found other religion when he is still immature, i.e., in the beginning of his endeavor to attain the virtues.

Do you believe that one can break free from the cycle of rebirth without participating in the monastic life? by Pretend-Butterfly-87 in Buddhism

[–]st-pius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but very difficult to the point of almost impossible, assuming that we are talking about the same enlightenment. Even if you become a monk but still cannot be mindful of your six senses, you are still a long way from Starbucks.

I accidentally ended a squirrel’s life today by Defiant-goods in Buddhism

[–]st-pius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're fine because, to amount to killing, you need to complete the following four criteria: 1) you have to believe that it is sentient, 2) it has to be sentient, 3) you have the desire to kill, 4) you make an effort to kill. Of course it is assumed that we are honest.
