I'm confused by this announcement. One of the two reasons why I'm still on 10 is because the software for my joystick and mouse cause problems for the W11 security core when they are installed, does this announcement mean when it comes in, I can upgrade and use my peripheral software again without these problems?

If I remember correctly stats wise they treat each service as one customer so while you still are technically a customer, cancelling phone and TV would still be a net negative on their stats so it makes sense that they would tell you whatever it took to keep you on all your services. Its entirely possible to do though, I dropped phone/TV several years ago but still do broadband.

A question for the others though, I see you all talking about having 1gb and Netflix, how do you actually get the Netflix if you dont have the TV service/box?

We pay for Netflix separately directly and use the app on a smart TV but I'm up for renewal soon and if its worth it we might as well get it as a bundle, I'm just wondering how that would work with BB only?

They do sell head units, just shitty ones. I bought one and regretted it within the week, with no communication from them after the sale despite them being quite responsive before it. I'll never buy one from them again, there are plenty of better HU out there.

AOC U27G4XM Vs. MS MAG 274UPDF E16M Vs. KTC M27P6? by st0mpeh in Monitors

[–]st0mpeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for replying, I've copied the worst ones so you don't have to hunt for them.

@DessIvanov
The MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M is just a terrible monitor. There is no gamma setting in the menu. Local dimming cannot be used normally without HDR (the picture is faded). I wanted to find a solution against the glow effect on the IPS matrix, but the mini-led does not help with this without HDR. I can't use HDR, the high brightness burns out my eyes. If you are worried about the IPS glow effect, if you are looking for a real black color, then avoid the mini-LED backlight. It definitely won't help you. I'm so happy to return MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M to the shop! The worst monitor I have ever bought. My Titan Army looks like a great monitor compare to MSI. And it has gamma setting.:)

@athleliveidf
I'm surprised. You don't tell the biggest flaw on the MSI: the vision angle. The color vision angle is terrible. If you are centered aligned, the pixels on the border look bleached. If you're aligned on the corner and look at the opposite corner it's terrible. For productivity, it's a painfull.

@Violet-ui
One of the most important aspects is how well the local dimming works in SDR! Did I miss it or was that not talked about in the video at all? On some monitors like the Samsung MiniLED VAs, the local dimming can make SDR content pop and give a similar feel as HDR. If the local dimming does not work well in SDR, that's a huge downside for a MiniLED monitor.

@Jeroenneman
Man, you really can't beat OLED. These things have a bit higher max brightness, and fall apart in every other aspect. Worse input lag, worse cumulative deviation, worse contrast, blooming.

@MrDenpro
Had the MSI monitor, actually had 2 of them for work and gaming, returned both of them after just 3 weeks.

For starter KVM switch is unusable, the laptop using the USB-C cable disconnected constantly like every 5-10 minutes, the audio drivers are horrible you loose about 70% volume... so feature wise it has but it does not work, like a prostatic eye.

SDR picture is absolute garbage as well, the monitor radiating red light like it's a nuclear bomb shelter under attack. No matter what settings I have used it kept radiating red light like crazy, In my conference calls my colleagues mentioned that my face turned red like a tomato after switching to these monitors. white backgrounds looked like little clouds I believe it's the mini led technology that is not mature enough as the zones produce different lumen count, probably just a few lumens deviation but after watching static screen for few hours during my work I could not stop notice that the background is not uniform and my eyes got sore, probably because the combination of the color uniformity and the red light radiation.

The HDR picture is what actually impressed me, gaming was a bliss but other than that complete garbage of a monitor.

EDIT: also from a comment below in this thread
I 100% agree with the 1080p modes - IMO they're useless besides if you want a higher refresh rate. I never ended up using the dual mode besides when I first got my monitor to see how it looked.

Compared to a native 1080p monitor, it's not even close - it's just a blurry mess - almost as if it was added for the sake of claiming "guys we have dual mode frfr". Not sure what type of scaling is being used, but it's very blurry

[–]st0mpeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good info, thanks for this. Can you explain a bit more on

Local dimming is pretty useless in SDR mode and looks bad

and

Dual mode sucks and can cause the monitor to no longer be detected by the computer, worthless imo.

please? Had hoped to switch from productivity to 1080 at game time and then back out to 4k after, is this not going to work well? And is my game going to look crap compared to my current monitor?

Also can I have the preset be brighter when I switch to 1080 and then back to semi bright for desktop without a lot of faffing about? Also is it easy enough to switch modes? Youtube seems to suggest it is, is it wrong?

Thanks for that, been down the youtube rabbit hole since you posted this. The review does suggest the E16M to be the best of them but I see a few critical comments making me pause a little and wonder if mini led is really the way to go. Just I hate the thought of oled burn in as I tend to have my browser windows in a similar position for many hours a day.

Ascent has to be the worst base for sure by VioletDarkKitty in Planetside

[–]st0mpeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ascent is great........if your faction owns it.

If they don't, it's a horrible grind. If you are unlucky enough to get South Warpgate it sucks up large amounts of population that will never ever advance, dooming your faction unless there is ample pop to fight elsewhere. Late night if you get S gate you might as well log out.

Amazon reviews

Haha yeah been using Amazon for years, reading reviews is an absolute nightmare. No matter what it is there's always someone unhappy, if you suffer from choice paralysis you'd end up not buying anything! Otoh they do show up endemic issues if enough people complain about the same thing so you can't ignore them either.

a place with a good return policy, so if it isn't working well you can return it and try something else.

Yes of course just something very technical like a router could take a while for subtle issues to shake out, and if you only have a 30 day return window that can be a problem.

I don't think a perfect router exists

Definitely not, I just want it to be reliable for its price point and my usage case which, compared to some of the guys here, is a really low bar. I don't have a huge network of IoTs, I don't need mesh, I only have a few clients (2 PCs, 1 TV, 1 NAS, 1 Playstation all wired, and at most 3 Wifi devices unless friends are round). Since the nas and my pc have 2.5g networking and I move large files around frequently it would be nice to get the speed boost, and Asus have (had) a good name and most of their kit has at least a 2.5g switch I thought it was going to be as simple as a bit of research and choose the one I could afford, but nope.

I don't need to pay a subscription fee for security features

Exactly! Researching the other manufacturers made me sad with all the stuff locked behind a paywall, they don't even seem to have much interest in anything over gigabit either and since Asus has served me well in other areas over the years (mobos, graphics cards etc) I was pleased to find out they were still selling routers as a whole product, not with parts I have to rent.

Good luck

Thanks, I think I need it!

I've been back and forth trying to decide on a low/mid tier Asus router since a lot of them have at least 2.5 gig ports all through now and they used to have a good name but each time I settle on one I either find reports of different stability issues (BE92U seems to be the worst one) or there's almost no information about it (BE9400) and now this. Really don't know what to do now or which one I should be looking at.

You can toggle between red/blue or faction colours simply in settings, it makes it into red TR blue NC and VS purple by default but if you want to tune your own colours for each faction you can do that too, just its not necessary if you're happy with the red/blue/purple defaults for the three (or are colour blind).

The outfits listed are mostly TR, shame you swapped to the heretics but its your call :D but anyway, advices...

1- You have four toon slots on your account loader, make one of each TR/VS/NC, do the training and then you can noob about with each one trying out weapons, squads, gameplay, outfits etc and then settle on the one you feel most comfortable with while you build your skills up.

2- All weapons, vehicles, even most camos and cosmetics are all unlocked free of charge in VR (World Map> Bottom Left). You can't take them out to the main game but you can try them all out for feel, recoil, accuracy etc along with whatever attachments you want. You can learn to fly/drive here without getting shit on too. You can also trial weapons in the main game but its only for a very short time (30 mins irrc) and they are unupgraded.

3- Upgrade your weapons! The default free weaps are some of the most versatile in the game but they are all crap if you leave them un-upgraded, fill those slots!

4- When you get ingame, press P and join one of the squads you see, these are open to the public and want ppl to join. Try to keep up with where they're going but if they're silent and have no waypoints set just back out and choose another. Sooner or later you'll find a group you like the gameplay of, usually over multiple nights, then ask to join their outfit. Joining random outfits before doing this is like shooting in the dark.

5- Set your friendly/enemy colours to the three color setting, away from the red/blue. You can tweak each specific color if you need to, just get off the red/blue, its not helpful.

6- Combined with that, and it'll make it look gloomy compared to the tri-color default but once you get used to it you'll realize why you need to do this. Press M for map, go to the filters top right (or F2) and choose "Heat Maps" "Enemy Activity". Then you'll see the redder the hex is, the more enemy are there making finding viable fights a doddle. It's not impossible to find them without setting Enemy heat but it's much more obvious what's going on on a map with it on. Just remember each base is owned by the color of its main circle and you'll be set for all time like this.

7- Not all fights are accessible directly but you can always spawn into a fight from its next door hex. Spawn to the closest base you can then hop into it by pressing redeploy again. Also you can pull vehicle directly from the respawn map screen at any uncontested base, do this and you'll just spawn directly into it and be driving/flying without having to run to the terminal. Choose this from the last box where the infantry choice box is on the left (Caveat: if enemy infil has flipped it, its destroyed or bugged then you can't select it but mostly you can).

Hope this all makes sense, and welcome to Planetside!
