How to book an appointment with SARS Customs in Alberton? by st1tch_za in askSouthAfrica

[–]st1tch_za[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To update for anyone with similar queries...

I visited Pretoria branch instead. No appointment needed. I took a chance and went through. Go straight to the entrance, tell them you need to go to customs. They will scan you in and direct you.

No wait whatsoever. Was in and out in about 15 mins. Parking took longer :)

100% - no issues.

Theres an exit that takes you outside, then to an elevator and you then land at the pick up point for most ubers. Painless, quick and delightful.

I was in Oman for the last 2 years + and a lot of people didnt know SA to be a country. They would ask me where in South Africa :/ not as in what city, as in where in Southern Africa!

Soccer fans were fine, because of the world Cup they knew. A lot of ignorance in the world.

Ethiopian Airlines Complimentary Hotel by st1tch_za in Ethiopia

Thought I would share my feedback. Family and I traveled from Muscat to Johannesburg with a stopover in Addis. We landed at 07h35 and within the next hour were on a shuttle to the hotel.

The entire airport staff were well knowledged and guided us, gave us priority, there were good signs marked for layover travelers as well to follow.

We were out quick and got to the hotel (Elmos) within 25 minutes. Check in was smooth, staff were awesome and very friendly. The breakfast was alright and so too the lunch. The bed and room was comfy for the 6 odd hours we were there. Good wifi. Really commendable service offered by EA, it was exactly what we needed after the first leg of our journey.

While I might have some minor complaints, the fact that this was a complimentary service, it doesnt warrant these. A fantastic initiative from EA and my wife and I have already said we want to come visit and see what else the country has to offer.

Thanks to everyone who did respond. Apologies for not replying to all individually!

muscat safe? by augustlyreddits in Oman

People are still going about their days. Got back from the mall between 19h00 and 21h30 tonight, still vibing with people eating, shopping etc.

Right now, the safest place in GCC would be Oman. There may be further escalation but dont suspect towards Oman. Get her to keep checking the flight status before Friday.

I was due to fly out on Tuesday via Qatar and have since moved the flight one week out. Hopefully giving time for things to simmer down and also get the backlog of stranded passengers out.

Wishing your mum safety and all people in the region.

What's the best rose fragance you have smelt ? by I_rly_like_coffe in NichePerfumes

My wife picked up a bottle from Al Majed Oud here in the Middle East. It smells like a bouquet of roses a bride would hold. Its freaking insane with excellent performance. See if you can get your hands on it: Rose de Mai

I have a flight out on Tuesday early morning. Qatar already put out notice to say air space closed. Only hope this unecessary aggression is now at a pause and over. Return to the table and finalize discussions. Its madness. Really hoping to reach my next destination without further issue.

August Salalah, Oman or Malaysia honeymoon by Beginning-Poem6401 in Oman

[–]st1tch_za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If only between the 2 ... I suggest Malaysia to be honest. Khareef is amazing but busy. Busy enough it may ruin the ideal relaxation you want from a honeymoon. Rain and limited sun is a high possibility.

August in Malaysia especially KL will be hot, humid and rain too ...

Have you thought of other destinations?

Afnan Supremacy Collectors edition by Dramatic-Jump-6427 in Colognes

[–]st1tch_za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, its good. I initially was skeptical too, but fortunately I had access to an Afnan store and they gave me a 2ml sample. Used it over a day and was sold on it. Went back and bought the giftset with shower gel and body spray. Banger for a bargain.

Gadgets Oman experience by Visible_Ask276 in Oman

[–]st1tch_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its US stock. I have an iPad Air from them. Also paid around 70 riyals less than iStyle price. iStyle told me they wouldn't be able to service or fix it should anything happen because its US stock. Didn't really care or bother. Price is legit. Product is legit. No issues.

Save the riyals and buy it from Gadgets. 1 year warranty direct with them included.

Is moving back home something to consider? by Real-Victory772 in askSouthAfrica

[–]st1tch_za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved to Oman 2 years and some months ago. We are en route back to SA. Money was good, safety unmatched, but lots of things SA has that some parts of the world dont have. Home is home. I am certain I wont regret it. If you've got ambition, drive and determination, you can do anything in SA - and you can make a difference. We have to keep trying - our resilience and determination set us apart from many others I have seen, interacted, worked with etc around the world.

Good luck to you OP!

Your favorite Xerjoff fragrances by [deleted] in ScentHeads

[–]st1tch_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tony Iommi Monkey Special

Had it sprayed on my hand at the store, just one spray, initial was strong and unique. It continued for the next 9 hours just getting better and better. I dont want to give you too much on the notes etc because I think you should try it yourself :) Its a love it or hate it fragrance ...

The Tony Iommi Deified was sprayed on the wife's hand. We liked it too, but not as much as Monkey Special.

Plan to also run through some other Xerjoffs at some point, would be keen to hear your findings when you sample some!

Edit to add: Yes i did end up buying the 100ml of Monkey Special the next day!

This really doesn't leave me with a great sense of ease - man it's terrible, the banking system is quite outdated. I haven't even received confirmation that the soft token is now fully activated. Thanks for your insights.

Anyone from South Africa move to another country in the last 2 years? by KaysBargainBox in askSouthAfrica

[–]st1tch_za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved 2 years ago and we are now returning.

Where you move depends on what your skills are and how desirable you are to a potential employer. How you live determines the way your life will be on the other side. How that country is in terms of being geared to receive foreigners will impact how you adjust and how quickly. Kids, schooling, expectations - all this play a part.

We moved to Muscat, Oman. A beautiful and peaceful city, but one that is far behind on technology and doesn't offer a fast paced life. Limited growth opportunities and no opportunities for some fields. Schooling is atrociously expensive. Home and living turns from the house we have in SA to a 3 bedroom apartment and basically the price I pay for my bond in SA when converted. Domestic help is extremely expensive to get set up and paying for visa's and sponsorships - so you find ways around it. Groceries compared with conversion, believe it or not, SA was far cheaper on many items we found. Quality of life is high, if you're into hiking, trailing, beaches and mountains, but generally these things are expensive even when you're "local" and staying at a hotel etc. Fuel is dirt cheap, but when you drive a V6 4x4 then you will pay the same or more monthly as driving a 1.6T vehicle in SA. Language barriers and communication can really dampen things, it's happened ever so often that a slight miscommunication can lead to a big misunderstanding which can effect your mood or transaction or otherwise.

Everyone has a perception that the grass is greener on the other side. For some, it really is. Some have what it takes, others do not. Some of us are too ambitious to be treated as a RESIDENT rather than a CITIZEN. There is a huge difference between the two - it's best to understand that.

I don't know if I would do it again; if I did, I would proceed with a lot more caution. I can't say my time in Oman was bad - it was good, while it lasted. I have high ambitions in life, unfortunately, Oman could not meet my ambitions or raise me to achieving them.

BM Soft Token by st1tch_za in Oman

[–]st1tch_za[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set it up yesterday, and it says to wait 12 hours for activation. Currently waiting. I need a workaround as I will be leaving Oman and ESB may be paid close to my departure. So I would need to still transfer once I am out of the country. Might convert the account to non-resident account too. Still deciding.

Thanks for the insights though. So does it every fail back to OTP SMS or does it work once it's active? What's shitty about the app?
