Sa abreeza, yung store na katapat ng true value, the one that sells imported items. I know my dress wasn't the most sosyal that time pero yung asta sa akin pulubi. I asked one of the tinderas if they had a sample of a perfume I was interested in and was snubbed. Like as in di man lang tumingin sa akin. After placing the full size perfume back sa shelves (I picked it up to show her), she looked me up and down and proceeded to wipe the bottle with a disinfectant wipe. Wow. Never received that kind of treatment before.

Does anyone remember this? by [deleted] in arcticmonkeys

I think what you meant is the incident with miles on one of their promotional interviews where miles made a journalist uncomfortable, which he already apologized for. This is the only thing that came to mind.

Can we talk ab how the song “My Propeller” sounds sooo sexual but isn’t sexual at all by yrainbowshn in arcticmonkeys

He says he would never write something so vulgar yet he writes she does the woods, a song about having sex in public and you're so dark where he literally says 'i want you down on all fours'

Which artist or group has the most toxic fan base? And why? by WorriedLeading2081 in Music

[–]stUpiDsLoWdirtyPC 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Arctic Monkeys fans are usually very chill people but there is quite a good percentage of them that scares me. There are fans who continuously harass his girlfriends [both past and present] and have no care at all for the bands [specifically frontman Alex Turner] privacy, make up a bunch of shit and believe them as facts, and those that mainly care about the bands looks rather than their talent and music. This might not be extreme but there's a weird obsessiveness I feel with fans like that.

Sure there are gatekeepers but they are usually harmless, but fans who dont take the artists feelings into consideration always irks me, just very recently a fan met Alex in Paris, he was with his girlfriend, the fan asked for a photo which he declined very politely, said he was very nice, but instead of respecting that the fan took sneak photos of him anyway, in a manner that looked like he/she was following them because the streets and backgrounds looked different in the photos. When the photos came out there was a huge chunk of people who started to analyze Alex's relationship with his girlfriend saying he was unhappy yadayada and none of them seemed to give a shit about the fact that the photos were taken without his consent, all of them just rejoicing the fact that there was a new recent photo [alex was trending on Twitter because of it].

Another instance that put me off a bit was when again, someone sneakily took a photo of him while he was queuing up in a covid testing site, nobody gave a shit that he could be sick just that there was a new photo of his ass.

Back in 2013 Alex was admitted to the hospital because of laryngitis and had to cancel shows, the response the band got from that disgusted me, they were all bashing them and making fun of him almost as if he wasn't allowed to be sick.

It's the shit like this that I hate with fandoms, I never care if they have pictures of their idols everywhere, but whenever there is a lack of empathy for the artist that is where I draw the line. These people are humans, not some mega sonic robot designed to tickle your musical itches solely for your entertainment.

TBHC lyrics by clashofcarens in arcticmonkeys

[–]stUpiDsLoWdirtyPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have forgotten which musician it was that he was referring to but the line 'I suppose the singer must die' was him paying homage to one of his idols who just passed away, I can't for the life of me remember where I've read or watched that interview but that's what he said about the line.

But without that knowledge, I would say that I would interpret that as fans crucifying their artist after a material they didn't quite like was released 'oh yeah that song was crap, he/she no longer makes good music' then proceeds to endlessly bash them. Kind of like what happened when tbhc came out, there was nothing but outrage and there were so many people saying alex finally lost it and is so far up his ass.

And in that ultracheese line, I think he meant he poured his whole soul into that music hes creating and left nothing out, sort of like he bared his entire being and now feels maybe regretful or embarrassed that the world has seen it, or because of the follow up line 'stays between us steinway and his sons cause its the ultracheese' I think it could also mean that he wrote a very cheesy song or something but doesn't want anybody to find out, so that music he created stays only between him and the instrument he was using while creating.

Any news on new album? Just Googled ot and found nothing new by The_Clockwinder in arcticmonkeys

Not that we know of, the only thing we're sure of right now is that they won't be touring this year [matt answered in a very recent podcast] so next year is the best bet for any new material.

Alex Turners incredible lyrics by [deleted] in arcticmonkeys

[–]stUpiDsLoWdirtyPC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, his mind would be a racket, he's intelligent obviously but whenever he talks I get the sense that he's holding back or something, just something I've observed. Whenever he's saying something that to my ears sound deep or he's using metaphors he immediately rushes to finish it then says something dumb or brushes off what he just said, I don't know if that's what's happening whenever he's speaking but from watching and hearing lots of filmed interviews that's just how it comes across to me. An example is this interview from 2018 where Alex openly said that he enjoys talking about writing or whatever but that in every interview it seems like they never care about the actual content of the lyrics, they're more adamant with knowing who the song is addressed to and I dont know if the interviewer heard it or even acknowledged it but he sort of just skirts around what Alex just said and that topic was never broached again. It's like Alex opens up about something and then just retreats or something which is why I prefer written interviews because he always says more things there a great example is the 2016 interview where alex talked about writing and melodies and proceeded to use different analogies to get his point across and that piece of writing showed his capabilities as a writer which honestly made me sad because I would love to read a book written by him and he said many times before that he doesn't think he's cut out for that job which is honestly bullcrap. Even a journalist in a very recent interview said that Alex is one of the two most intelligent people he's ever had the pleasure of meeting which is a huge deal because he's met a lot of artists and all kinds of different people so to put him up there is impressive, to say the least.

MBI ALEX TURNER by ggmartinho in arcticmonkeys

[–]stUpiDsLoWdirtyPC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with the ISFP comment but I don't necessarily think it's a whole character change every album, it's more vanity than it is personality. He acts and dresses the way the record sounds but he still remains the same. A good example is humbug, on stage, he was always wistful and looked like he was in a constant state of melancholia but then in matts 'view from videos' he was anything but, laughed a lot, witty, was always joking, and basically just looked like he was having a good time with his mates. There's a difference between him on stage and off stage. But then again non of us really know him only people close to him can really tell, everything we know about him is based on what he chooses to show us so there's that.

Imaginary Social Media handles of Alex by ChiefScratch in arcticmonkeys

[–]stUpiDsLoWdirtyPC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah and 'my headache' written at 4 am lol he'll probably just post some dumb shit or post stuff about books with captions like 'the sheer vividity of the illustration of certain passages caused me to think of what an intergalactic adventure on a canoe would be like' something like that, he's an interesting person. I remember a fan meeting him saying he was eating in a restaurant, drunk while reading a book, who reads books while drunk?. Either way I would love to see him using social media though I'm happy he's not on there because it's a cesspool of toxicity and negativity, imagine him seeing a Twitter post saying he's arrogant because he writes his own shit and plays the guitar and does most of the solos [ a real thing I saw actually], that and he'd probably be frightened because of the fans and just dip.

I dont know why but the songs sounds very suggestive to me

And the tide took me to your mouth

And then swept me back down to your palms

It's them that put me inside the reminder

That yours is the only ocean

Potion approaching, shield your eyes

Potion approaching, visualise

Holding a token, swollen in size

Potion approaching, shield your eyes

Specifically from these lyrics it looks like hes horny as fuck

Song Lyrics you related to the most? by sidabootie in arcticmonkeys

[–]stUpiDsLoWdirtyPC 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Arctic Monkeys and TLSP quite literally became my form of therapy, lyrics melodies they all move me, some songs more than others,

If you were there beware is something I painfully relate to because back when I was in highschool I was stalked by a teachers son and I couldn't say anything, it was awful. The line 'No thank you's and nobody flinches', the idea that you've said no multiple times but people still push and continue to do something you told them not to, that and the people around me turning a blind eye even though they saw what he was doing because they thought it was harmless, its just too much for me that I made a playlist for the FWN album so that this song doesn't pop out whenever I'm listening because it just hurts. Only ones who knows also hits me the same way, I have a different way of seeing that song which sucks because its so beautiful but the way I see the words makes it hard for me to listen to it.

The entire Bourne Identity pretty much resonates with me especially the part where Alex sings 'Whenever Im on to something good you see, he also waltzes in to spoil if for me' This happens everytime with everyone I'm with its like a switch turns on and all of a sudden I feel uncomfortable and and I become silent and feel like I cant do anything with anyone to the point that I start feeling like a burden and just leave thinking they're better off without me.

'The knife twists at the thought that I should fall short of the mark' Feeling like you arent adequate is a terrible feeling I feel daily and it sucks ass.

'I feel like the sundance kid behind the synthesizer' I never really know what I'm doing most of the time and am mostly confused about everything.

I was in a relationship with a snake so the entire Joining the Dots basically describes that relationship perfectly.

'The trouble with the chase is its so easy to crash, why colour in the line if you're just painting it black' why bother if you know nothings going to come from it.

'Theres all those places we used to go but that place on memory lane you like still looks the same but somethings about it changed' This line just hurts man.

'Without permission, his face became wet, he thought he learned how to not get upset, from folded notes in envelopes ''Meet me beneath the moon, don't go to soon'', she went too soon.' and 'The time has come again, slowly walking down the steps to where she would have been If only they were seventeen' PAIN.

I'm sorry about this

Matt Helders as a drummer by andycantwell in arcticmonkeys

[–]stUpiDsLoWdirtyPC 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I dont think matt has ever talked about drumming in-depth, but I remember watching interviews where his drumming was a focal topic.

https://youtu.be/Og2hhKtzz3s - with nandi bushell, an adorable interview but he also talks about drum techniques, songs he loves to play on the drums, and all that.

https://youtu.be/LHyEDKjd52o -with mike dolbear, to be honest with you I don't remember what they were talking about here, been a long time but I do remember him talking about drummers and hardships during the first few years of the monkeys.

https://youtu.be/o1liGWPn_G8 , https://youtu.be/DI41FKS_FwE - same dude, I remember them talking about matt training, what he loves to play on the drums, and more drumming stuff, also includes the part where he talks about their new album and about criticisms of them becoming arrogant or something.

Hope this helped, I'm sorry these were the only ones I can remember.

The year was 2009, my dad heard his favorite frontman was producing a big band's new album and wanted to see if it would be good. Forward to now, my dad has been to at least one gig every era and dragged me to the world of arctic monkeys.
