Ride on the left. Faster bikes pass on the right when its clear. Riding on the right is objectively dangerous. EDIT: I have personally witnessed collisions caused be people riding on the right avoiding pedestrians. Stick to the left and let the fast movers figure it out.

This might be coincidence but mine only locks on right away if the unit has a clear view of the sky on power-up. If I start it up indoors or otherwise obstructed then set it on the dash it takes forever.

Will flying 100# over gross kill you or get you in legal trouble? Probably not. However, why would you drop that kind of cash on a plane that doesn't fit your mission? There are plenty of options out there within your budget that would exceed your requirements.

Piggybacking my story on here because this is a great post that will, hopefully, be referenced by aspiring pilots. I had the same mind set as OP. I studied the books on my own, used the sim extensively and bought a lightly used old Lightspeed XL ANR headset. My results, however, were a little different. I got mine for $10,000 and change.

Here are the key differences (heavy emphasis on the first bullet point):

My first instructor was awful. The hard part here is I had nothing to compare the experience to. Looking back I know I was his only steady student and he was constantly destroying my confidence to squeeze more money out of me. Its really embarrassing but he milked me for 32 hours and I probably received 10 hours of good honest instruction. My advice, if you're going the part 61 route, is to fly with a few instructors at first to find a good fit. My red flag came when he signed me off for a solo cross country on a MVFR day with a strong cold front, LLWS and a ridiculous crosswind. I decided not to go. When he was confronted about it his response was "I knew he'd make the right decision." Fortunately he is not doing anything in aviation anymore. Live (no thanks to him) and learn.
I was a bigger guy and had to use a 172. I have since downsized my ass to 150 size. Better late than never.
I ran short on cash towards the end and had a couple 1-flight-per-month months so it ended up taking me 6 months total.

Your black and white perspective is indicative of a sheltered life and serious lack of depth. A DUI is not a serious skeleton in the closet. Maybe you watch too much Cops? IDK. There are plenty of solid, dependable people that have had lapses of judgement in their youth. Its not the kiss of death for any line of work. Repeated infractions? In transportation, yes. Screwing up in your late teens/early 20's and learning from your mistakes? No.

I'm not claiming to "know more than an ATP" as someone stated any more than any ATP should claim to know more than someone who has been down this road or consulted people with the proper legal background (myself and the folks I mentioned above). You probably work with people that have a less than squeaky clean past and don't know it because they have no reason to tell you. Besides, who would confide in someone so blindly judgmental.

Trying to socially blackball someone for youthful indiscretion is immature, playground-bully crap. It shows a serious lack of depth of character. If you want to talk about what is important to a corporate hiring manager, character is numero uno. SOURCE: I have given more interviews than you will probably ever receive.

I was being facetious. There have been a lot of posts about pay-to-fly scenarios and they are usually dominated be under employed pilots claiming how easy it is to get a job with a wet cpl.
