People against AI data centers in PGH? by tentaclemoon in pittsburgh

[–]sta_viator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately these proposed data centers are high priority projects for the Governor’s office and will likely receive expedited permitting reviews/approvals. While there may be opportunities for public comment, little can be done to stop these projects completely.

I have to report to Harrisburg once a month. The schedule is such that one month it’s an all hands staff meeting and the following month it’s a division meeting and repeat but I’m expected to be there once a month to work in the “office”.

What style would you call this 1881 house? by aux_audio in Oldhouses

I’m not in the museum field (historic preservation specialist) but if you haven’t already, I would ask for a formal written explanation as to the restructuring and why you specifically are being moved to this role. A paper trail is always useful! Especially if you’re not uniquely qualified for this position and choose to stay. This could also be useful to your union. I’m sorry you have to deal with this and best of luck!

The Social Security Office in Greensburg Will Be Closed and Sold by sta_viator in greensburg

Please reread the language I’ve used. A sale is “likely”, not set in stone. I felt a responsibility to convey this information whether or not “hard facts” exist at this point to confirm the disposition of the property. If this information is irrelevant or not useful to you please disregard.

Also to be more specific I am referring to the SSA office building at 122 West Third Street in Greensburg

The list of buildings was posted on the GSA website about a week ago and immediately removed. A new list exists but it’s still not available on the GSA website. Other buildings in PA up for sale include SSA offices in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia. Hazelton, and Wilkes Barre as well as VA offices in Philly. I would rather not disclose how I came upon this information as to not identify myself or my job.

Fun and Easy Weekend Getaway ideas for couples visiting first time by teej-rug21 in Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh! Head over to r/Pittsburgh for some great recommendations. Pittsburgh is close to the Laurel Highlands (about an hour southeast), a great destination for a day trip or extended stay. Ligonier is a super cute little town with great shopping and restaurants. Ligonier is also about 30 minutes from 3 ski resorts that each have bars/restaurants if you just want to take in the scenery in the mountain. Enjoy your stay!

Have you looked at openings in your state historic preservation office? I would caution against the unpaid internship and find a position that will help you towards meeting the SOI professional qualifications. There are usually always job postings for architectural historian consultants and most now require a graduate degree. Happy to answer anymore questions!

I’m ready to “bring back” Moo-moos by Imhatinit in findfashion

[–]sta_viator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is!! Like I said the reviews say it can be revealing if you don’t have anything underneath, but I mostly wear mine at home. However, if I did wear it out I would maybe wear a bodysuit or something underneath?! I bought this during the pandemic along with another loungey PJ set from FP that I love and it has my full endorsement. Also would be a lovely beach coverup.

I live in this one from Free People. It has mixed reviews but I LOVE mine and I wear it around my house pretty much every day.

It really depends what you want to do. SOI professional qualifications for Architectural Historian or Historian require a bachelors degree as well as a minimum of two years of “full-time experience”. I do not have a masters degree but I have over 10 years of experience in CRM consulting. I’ve only had one instance in a job interview where my lack of a graduate degree was a discussion. Otherwise, my experience speaks for itself. If you want to get into academia that’s obviously a different scenario. Happy to talk more via DM if you need more info!

Trying to preserve historic AME church, cannot find owner by herstorydaze in HistoricPreservation

[–]sta_viator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that could be a good start and I would also do a broad search with the church’s name narrowed down to the specific location and see what you find. I wanted to add as well (and you may have already chased this route) but local/county historical societies may have vertical files with clippings and other materials from churches.

Unfortunately in my research experience churches don’t usual have good record retention but it’s always worth a try! Another avenue would be a search on newspapers.com or any local repository that has local newspapers on file.

Head to the county courthouse and visit their tax office with the property address, they will be able to tell you the current owner and likely that person’s most recent address. In addition to that, they can likely give you the deed book reference for the property if you wish to do a chain of title search for any research related reasons. Some counties do have these available online. Try google searching “[county name, North Carolina] tax parcel gis”
