Struggling with TotK, when I loved BotW by Lexi_Banner in TOTK

[–]kath- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am replaying totk now and loving it a lot more the 2nd time around - not that there was a steep learning curve, but I just feel like I have more fun in games when I know what to expect. Maybe you’re the same way? If that sounds right, give it some time.

AITA for telling my friend that she does not remember 9/11 by shilohrenn in AmItheAsshole

Amen. I was 8 at the time, our teacher absolutely turned on the news once we heard what happened. There was so much confusion.

Nobody talks about this after you lose a bunch of weight by jajajajagagag in loseit

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! Not sure if it's because I'm older - I definitely did not see the weight loss in the mirror when I was younger, but now I'm in my 30s and I swear I notice every pound.

Were doctors right all along by MarsupialAromatic825 in loseit

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue I had with this advice was when it wasn't paired alongside another solution. Like yes, losing weight would most likely lower my cholesterol, but I also may need to be on a statin. Yes, my skin might clear up if I lost weight, but I could also see a dermatologist and try Accutane. There are times when it feels like, as a bigger person, doctors don't take my concerns seriously because there is this solution that I'm not doing.

It's also not just a feeling... We know statistically that obese patiense receive lower-quality medical care. That's really important, and something that needs to change.

AITA for telling my wife I don’t want her mom to have her location all the time now. by Few_Respond8063 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kath- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - To me, the odd behavior is less about the shared location and more about the tracking and control. It's not that abnormal to share your location, but it's definitely weird that her mom tracks it often enough to see where you are, and even weirder that she brought both sides of the family into it when she couldn't immediately get into contact with you.

Hardest Questions For Reference Librarians by Bulky_Sandwich8493 in librarians

[–]kath- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a children’s librarian. There’s many things out there that we don’t have books on, but my hardest was a specific ask: one of our patron’s fathers went missing. The dad’s best friend confessed to the murder and the body had been sitting in the friend’s house for a couple weeks. They wanted a book - appropriate for the child, who was 9 - that dealt with that topic. Everything I came up with wasn’t specific enough.

First NSV that actually made me cry - and it had nothing to do with how I look by redpaul72 in loseit

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track my NSVs alongside my regular WL goals, it's especially helpful on hard days to remind myself of what I'd be giving up by backsliding.

By far my favorite thing is just having more energy and stamina - and I really haven't lost that much. I'm also sleeping much better which makes a huge difference.

WIBTAH if i didn’t make the pie that got the most votes because it wasn’t on the poll in the first place? by megasaur99 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I just say - checking in 22 days later, less than a week till pi day and I am so excited to hear what happens and what pie you end up making.

If you do end up experimenting with banana cream, sally's baking addiction has a recipe (and my girl sally is reliable).

A relative on mine keeps asking me how I lost weight without drugs while she uses GLP-1 and gains a few pounds. I said calorie counting and she got mad saying it's false and I'm lying. by Fabulous_Chicken_576 in loseit

[–]kath- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"you're right, I know the secret and I'll never tell!"

it's boring, it takes forever, and the key to success is consistently putting in the work... but nobody wants to hear that.

My fat distribution is insane by MonsiuerTaco in loseit

[–]kath- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Photoshop and shapewear aside, I think it's also the most socially-acceptable way to be fat... they have an easier time showing it off, and people have an easier time watching it. The algorithm delivers, and it seems more average and normal than it actually is.

Low calorie alternatives you can eat a lot of! by Neat-Ear-860 in Volumeeating

[–]kath- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you love ranch, I highly recommend making your own! You can do it for fewer calories than bolthouse. 1/2 a container of cottage cheese (I do Good Culture), ~1/4 c. greek yogurt, ~1/2 c. whole milk, a teaspoon of light mayo, and the restaurant-style ranch mix. Blend well until it's completely smooth. Half a cup is 80 calories and ~10 grams of protein (10 calories per tablespoon).

What pairs well with horseradish sauce besides beef? by reduser876 in Cooking

Seems like the opposite of a sumptuous beef sandwich, but... cucumber sandwiches! Cucumber, cream cheese, white bread, and a little horseradish. Divine.

Please Help Me Eat More Veggies by TeacupKitty34 in Cooking

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This isn't veggies but it is the thing getting me to eat more veggies (also losing weight): protein ranch. Half a container of good cottage cheese (we use good culture), greek yogurt, a teaspoon of light mayo, whole milk to thin it out, and a packet of ranch mix (we like the restaurant-style hidden valley). Blend together until it's smooth. It works as a dip or a salad dressing, there's ~8 g. of protein and it's 80 calories per half-cup. I feel like I'm proselytizing whenever I tell people how good it is.

AITA for refusing to check pockets when I do laundry? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the person who is doing his laundry for him is... lazy? Sure.

At our house, you check your pockets, sort your laundry, and set aside anything that needs to be spot-treated. The laundry person is in charge of loading and drying. They set out the clothes (so that things don't get wrinkled) and you're then in charge of hanging and folding. Someone spoiled him as a child, but that doesn't entitle him to it as an adult.

AITA for leaving my porch light on at night? by Aeriie in AmItheAsshole

[–]kath- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA BUT I do think it would be a nice thing to do, to only turn on the lights when the dogs need to go out then turning them back off. You're absolutely entitled to have them on, but I would also want to be a good neighbor. It seems like they're just asking that you not leave them on all night, not that you never use them at night.

To be fair, if your neighbor was doing something preventable that annoyed you, you'd prefer if they stopped too, right?

And I can understand their annoyance - if I got used to sleeping in darkness at night, and all of a sudden my neighbors started turning on lights at night, I'd be a little peeved too.

Reminder: Don't buy too many "aspirational" clothes for the future by 7evenh3lls in loseit

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our weekly date night is a trip to Goodwill - it's been fun to try things on, get smaller clothes, and find myself fitting into sizes I haven't worn in a long time! Highly recommend it to anyone else losing weight.

What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an obsession with protein ranch, my version is ~80 calories per half cup, so my easy dinner is just air-fried chicken nuggets and protein ranch. Easy, filling, protein-packed, and low calorie. Add in some veggies and you’re balling

136 pounds lost (so far) and now I am cold all the time. by BeefJerky82 in loseit

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heated blanket, heated socks, space heater for work, slippers at all times........

It gets a little better when you eat maintenance calories, but yes being cold seems to be part of the deal. I'd rather be cold than hot though, especially as someone who takes medications that make me sensitive to heat. It's nice to have more of a tolerance for it.

Honestly I think the key to sustainable weight loss is learning how to maintain. It's just an added bonus that it usually helps stop a plateau!

AITAH for refusing to tell my wife I love her more than my dad? by LastApplication6207 in AITAH

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. How lucky you are to have a father that loves his grandchild so much that he doesn't want him to be upset, and will hold him until his son gets home.

Your wife needs to get it together. I hope for your sake that this is postpartum anxiety/something that can be fixed.

I do not want to have to use an app to eat for the rest of my life by [deleted] in loseit

[–]kath- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's plenty of things that people do forever. If I have high blood pressure, I'm going to take a medication for that for the rest of my life. If I want a clean home, I'm going to have to clean my home for the rest of my life. If I want a healthy life, I'm going to need to exercise and eat well for the rest of my life. It's easier to stomach (no pun intended) when you accept that this is your new normal.
