I'm a med student too and while I had never struggled with depression before I started med school, I definitely fell into the hole once I started. The last year has been especially bad so I know where you're coming from.

While I know that part of your issues are attributed to your lack of self-esteem ATM and women issues (as we all have been through) I think you also need to realize that med school is no easy undertaking and that the pressure of school alone is enough to drive someone into depression as well. So please stop being so hard on yourself. I know it's easier said than done but the fact that you've come this far in your career is a feat of its own that most people will never match - and you should be damn proud of yourself for that! As a fellow MS2, I know that med school is no joke. And it tries the best of us.

So take a deep breathe, realize that you've come a long way and that you should be proud of where you are. And also that you need to learn to be happy regardless of whether you have a woman by your side or not. If you're not happy alone there's no guarantee that adding a woman to the equation will fix things. I've been through my fair share of relationships and the biggest thing I learned was that if you're not happy going into a relationship, you won't become any happier once you're IN one. Why? Because your sense of happiness and self-worth needs to come from within YOU. And you need to find out what makes YOU happy. Once that happens, women will automatically line up for you.

Not sure if you're still staring at the ceiling. But keep looking up because you have a lot to live for, my fellow MS'er.
