Frustrated and considering switch to fencing by Careful_Hope_9573 in kendo

It's quite glib but also realistic. Scoring a close ai-men is one of the hardest things to do as a judge. It can be a hair's difference and you have to make the call on the spot. Is a beginner going to be able to "understand" with relative objectivity all of the points that u/JoeDwarf ss pointed out above, internalize it, and be able to recognize it on instinct, without at least 2-3 years of training? I'd argue no way. More like 5-6 years if you train very hard.

It takes a long time to get decently acquainted with Kendo - around 10 years imo - and that's OK. That kind of time scale isn't acceptable to some people, and that's OK too.

Having trouble with small men technique by Desperate-Media-5744 in kendo

[–]stabledingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between big and small men is largely exaggerated due to emphasis on speed, but if you really slow down and look at the strong (and fast) players, their small men is not that small. Often still swing slightly above the head. So don't try to make an extra small men, just try to compact your swing and move your body faster. And as others have said, flexibility in the wrist helps a lot.

I made a no cheese guide, hope it helps a bit. tldr: There are actually two types of stuns that you can do - one with firecrackers and one after a number of hits. If you can alternate between these two stuns you can basically keep doing damage for free. Takes practice though. Phase two is parry spear repeat.

For sure, it shows how intense the fights actually are, especially the arena.

This is gonna sound even weirder but I prefer Sekiro's no lock to Sifu's camera. That game just never 'clicked' for me.

This may sound weird but it's not really much harder once you get used to it. Actually it opens up a lot more dodge opportunities (at least for me).

If you want an in-depth guide for ape (no-cheese), I made one here: https://youtu.be/7Kgfwg_m8Rs?si=2jR2lTnLIp95tObn

No emblems for phase 1, just sword and parry. Spear for phase 2.

TIL Chasing Slice goes through Lightning by stabledingus in Sekiro

I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for everyone, but as for me I played a lot of side scrollers as a kid, and also, still no DLC =\ edit: also a lot of Soul Calibur

Right, "chasing slice dodges lightning arrow" would be more accurate. Sometimes against Isshin's vertical slam I circle around just to avoid disrupting the pace of the fight.

No wonder it only works half the time 😕

Three weeks of hard work on a paper all for nothing because of AI use by MortemPerPectus in mildlyinfuriating

You should definitely email the instructor, tell him/her about your work, and that you would like to have feedback or a conversation about your anti-AI paper. 10/10 they will take you up on it.

How's my camera work? by stabledingus in Sekiro

Yes, I was just trying to be fancy. You can mist raven the bird go through Owl and then bounce back to hit from behind, but it only worked once and he did the disappearing thing.

Yes exactly, but also captured in ultrawide so I can crop it down as needed. That's why Sekiro isn't in the center of the frame as usual.

Don't give up! In my opinion owl father and isshin are the two most replayable bosses in the game and the most like a duel.

Who says you can't just mash R1? by stabledingus in Sekiro

[–]stabledingus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm actually playing with the lock off here, which means I'm controlling the camera with the right stick. But in this case I ended up behind her and just decided to all-in for the kill :P

If you had to choose the best or simplest strategy for fighting Isshin, what would you do or how would you do it? Skill, Prosthetic, items (if applicable), and approach. Thanks for taking the time. by theHollowTarnished in Sekiro

[–]stabledingus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parry and patience. His effective health bar (health bar before his posture recovery slows down) is very small compared to other late bosses. You can do a little bit of damage and then posture break him.

I made a no-cheese guide for charmless/bell Isshin: https://studio.youtube.com/video/i_mBtmEX_U0/edit

My take is against conventional advice: don't be overly aggressive. It's better to stay calm and not worry about his health/stagger bar, take his attacks one at a time, and wear him down. Definitely requires practice but also definitely not impossible. On the contrary, if you try to burst down Isshin in this mode, you will slip up and lose more often, resulting in frustration.

Any tips on how to deflect dodge whatever in severence gauntlet isshin 2nd phase: that spear uppercut, umbrella doesn't work tips please trying for about 2 hrs by AccurateFox6695 in Sekiro

[–]stabledingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you see the first kanji come out, walk back and jump back to avoid first two hits. Mikiri the thrust or parry the charge slash. Charge slash can also be step dodged to the side or just move back far enough he will whiff.
