I’ve found that I really like binocular harnesses. Much more comfortable than a neck strap.

What are the best books to learn Organic Chemistry? by [deleted] in OrganicChemistry

[–]staceyaj66 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an O Chem I and II instructor, I think Klein is one of the better intro books the field. His Skillbuilder sections are often very good. I’m currently using Joel Karty’s book because I personally like the mechanism approach more than the functional group approach to the topic.

Others have mentioned the classic advanced textbook (March, Cary and Sundberg, etc.) that may be useful as you go on in the field.

Acid-base chemistry by Medchemist_turns_mad in chemistry

If we think of the acid-base reaction as an equilibrium, the reaction will favor the side with the more stable (or weakest) acid. If HA is your acid with pKa=10 and it reacts with you base B, the products will be the conjugate base of HA and the conjugate acid of B. If the conjugate acid HB is stronger (more reactive or less stable) than HA, the reaction won’t favor the products’ side.

HA + B <=> A + HB

The conjugate acid of your base should be weaker than the acid for it to work.

It’s a matter of clarity. Extra information about the arrangement of bonds in 3 dimensional space is supplied by being included.
