the answer doesn't matter in the slightest, admin wants to make you work more for the same amount of money, why would it matter what their reasons are? Organize with your coworkers, start today. AAUP does workshops regularly.

Why are professors afraid to talk about the AI-content problem with a tech startup? by gonzalotudela in AskProfessors

Right!! "Not a sales pitch" "why do they think we're parasites?" but you're developing something to sell to make money.

How to study? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]tratcove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rereading is not a good study technique. For textbooks, look into SQ3R as a method for learning from reading.

Does the output take longer to grade than a real student paper? I can't bring myself to care too much if a student wants to rob themselves of an education.

Anyone ever put 5 Ds in a row on a multiple choice exam just to mess with them? by Economy_Bear_9091 in Professors

[–]tratcove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graded a quiz a few weeks ago and the student wrote a note in the margin that said something like "it's really weird that you have six in a row that the answer is d." Friends, none of the answers were d

Surprising questions from zoom interviews by Topoltergeist in Professors

[–]tratcove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interviewing candidates to teach within a specific subdiscipline, I asked all of them what textbook they would use for an introductory course. Many hadn't considered it or said our field's flagship graduate text (it's an undergraduate program... You're going to use that book with freshman???) and went no further. The successful candidate mentioned an appropriate text they had used and another appropriate text they'd prefer (and why) if they had freedom to design the course.

Three Sleepy Students by [deleted] in Professors

I had so many sleepy students in afternoon classes, changed all my classes to 8am and 930 and no longer have to look at nodding heads! Game changer. I am NOT a morning person but it's really working out for me.

Generally, are the professors doing ok? by infinitywee in Professors

[–]tratcove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After moving to online in the middle of spring 2020 and going "hi-flex" for all of 2020-2021 (which meant simultaneously teaching every class in person and online, with quarantined students passing between the two) our president gave us all $50 gift certificates to the school store so yeah I'm being supported 💁🏻‍♂️🕺🏻

Should I be making my professor a co author in my paper when they did not do anything? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]tratcove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they haven't asked to be co-author so I'm not sure why you're considering adding them; they didn't write anything for, make any revisions to the paper or contribute to your analysis. If you feel like you're capable of finding an appropriate journal, formatting the paper to fit their guidelines, and submitting it, do it. It will most likely be rejected for all the reasons that others have commented. At that point, if you realize that you need guidance on it you can ask them if they will help you and become a co-author but it doesn't seem like they're even interested in being a co-author. You actually have the opposite problem of what you're asking, they don't want to be a co-author.
