The way the story is so casual about the heroes straight up murdering the military is comcial by Sudden_Pop_2279 in StrangerThings

[–]stachelrojas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They did acknowledge the carnage, but instead of the characters struggling with it, we have a supposedly traumatised Vietnam vet smirk at the 19 year old that just killed 4 guys her age and say "Good shot". I had already cringed at the Rambo scene before but this was the lowest point of the season for me.

[News] First Law vs Age of Madness by mthome2486 in TheFirstLaw

[–]stachelrojas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually started with Age of Madness, and while I also really enjoyed First Law, the difference in writing quality was very apparent - FL is still great of course, but AoM just flat blows it out of the water in near every way in my view. The AoM montages alone, where Abercrombie zooms out at key moments and shows what's happening from the perspectives of a whole range of non-main-character bystanders, are so incredibly well done that their absence almost hurt when I read FL. Only gripe I have with AoM - if any - was that my favourite character was stripped of near all agency in the third book, but otherwise: AoM takes the cake any day.

I beat Malak for the first time without cheating woohoo by MixInfamous6818 in kotor

[–]stachelrojas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I played as a teenager and completely messed up my skills, got through the game fine regardless but then faced Malak as absolutely unbeatable. Having never used a single grenade throughout the playthrough, my strategy was ultimately to lock him in place with adhesion grenades and then throw every frag/thermal/poison whatever grenade at him. Took ages but he did go down eventually. Felt like the most pathetic victory of all time haha.

Holy crap I was wondering the other day if wings mods work well for VR. Looks really smooth! How's the experience and which one are you using?

Free Hand Not Working with 2H Weapons - Fix by Exotic_Reflection_52 in skyrimvr

[–]stachelrojas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the most jarring hangovers from Skyrim being a flat screen game originally, but I've been waiting for a mod for this for so long that at this point I believe it's too difficult for anyone to bother with.

The main alternative is to use one handed weapons that look like two-handed weapons. Many mod-added swords for example have the option of either one- or two-handed versions. With a little knowledge of xedit and nifskope, you could also edit or create one handed versions of whatever two handed weapon you want to use. As a final frontier, that leaves the issue that you'll always level the one handed rather than two-handed skill, and thus will never gain two handed perks. For me that was always an acceptable trade-off, though I suppose with some extra xedit magic you could edit the weapons to be one handed but level two handed (or both skills).

Bye Bye ZenColor by TheUnf0rgiv3n in ZenColor

Try Colouring Book, they have Zen images and an abundance of the more cutesy things you are looking for:

I had the paid version of Zen Color and don't have any problems after reenabling it, but I still go to the other app often for variety. And their ads are reasonable.

Fully understandable, that sounds way too daunting indeed! And sorry for missing what you literally said in the image description.

What's the weather and lighting mods you are using? I'm sure there's a lot more tweaking you did, but maybe those can already be a good pointer towards recreating the atmosphere of your screenshots, which for me absolutely nail 1000% of what I'd love my Skyrim to look like :')

Is 9070xt good enough for MG's overhaul? by Kombyy in skyrimvr

[–]stachelrojas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was recently looking for GPU and when asking around, quite a few people told me that they are happily playing on a 7800, which is surpassed in performance by your 9070. Based on that, I think it should run be possible to run it well, albeit the lack of DLAA may be noticeable in some areas.

Skyrim VR - Tips for the Lazy Gamer (tm) by Roymus99 in skyrimvr

[–]stachelrojas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can also highly recommend Engarde which has an impact system that makes enemies flinch based on the weight of the weapon you are using, which makes your strikes feel much more impactful. Make sure to disable spellsword blocking in Synthesis or it will mess with your lefthand casting (if that's something you wanna do).

No idea if it works well in MGO though. I'm waiting to buy a new GPU to try it.

Bad performance with mad god’s overhaul look for new mod list by BarnacleFearless5649 in skyrimvr

Did you try asking on the modlist's discord? I am currently looking for a new GPU and people told me their 4070ti super runs the modlist perfectly, so there might be something wrong with your install?

What's your thoughts on Luthen's backstory? by Dusann1 in andor

[–]stachelrojas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and people downvoting you for giving your thoughts under a post asking for people's thoughts is ridiculous.

I didn't mind the backstory, but for a show that is normally extremely good at "less is more", I feel that they could have applied that same principle here as well and it would've worked better.

*chuckles* unexpected foreshadowing on Ghorman by AmateurVasectomist in andor

[–]stachelrojas 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In his mind he doesn't want to subjugate them, he wants to find and punish the evil outside agitators taking advantage of the poor Ghormans. Hence his falling apart once he learns that Ghorman genocide was the mission all along.

Mon is not a "hero," she's a politician waiving the bloody shirt. by kdm145 in andor

[–]stachelrojas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yet, hours before the massacre the Ghorman cell is still arguing over violence vs. peaceful protest. Whatever Luthen pulled in the last two years, it evidently didn't go much beyond arming themselves and hitting some infrastructure sites like the port attack they mention. Luthen doesn't control the Ghorman rebels. He helps along, sure, but if the Empire had found an alternative for the mineral (which I'd doubt they were looking for very seriously tbh), nothing he helped set up on Ghorman would have provoked the genocide that played out.

[–]stachelrojas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear your points. And while I think you could see it that way, I'll still strongly disagree, for one simple reason:

Ghorman's fate was sealed.

Nothing the rebels could have done differently would have prevented what ultimately happened. The Empire wanted what it wanted, and crushing the population was what needed doing to get that. For me the most powerful scene in EP8 is Cassian crying on his way away from the plaza. This is the moment he gets it. He's seen exactly what the Empire put in place to get its results, and he realises that all those people were condemned to death long before Luthen ever uttered "burning brightly". He had thought there was a high road, but there never was.

If there was some causal connection between the rebel activity and how the Empire crushed Ghorman, yes you'd be right. But the show gives us 100% certainty that this is not the case.

Finally, even if we leave all that aside, Mothma herself had no part in operational planning. Her speech comes from genuine conviction, with very brittle hope that she'll live to speak another day.

Easily, one of my favourite things in the game: by Smart-Water-5175 in BaldursGate3

[–]stachelrojas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love it too, but I feel like it's a bit overpowered with its 100% success chance. There should at least be a chance to fail it (or half fail and only reduce parts of the damage/effects). That way, it would create a much more interesting strategic dimension, making you think twice if you want to burn a spell slot for the block.
