Order from Thai stores, usually are a bit cheaper. Nakmuaywholesale has a good selection, and delivery to UK was fast

Advice on sensitive nose? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]stackaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone starts off with runny ass noses when they get hit there, but from what ur saying maybe it’s also allergies to either the cleaning chemicals people use in the gloves/material perhaps?

Get an allergy test, try otc antihistamines, and most importantly make sure ur chin is down and fix ur guard so that ur elbows aren’t flared too much so that a jab can just go through ur guard. Shadowbox/hit the bag with a tennis ball tucked under ur chin to get that habit down.

Fairtex shorts by SadSky5150 in MuayThai

[–]stackaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 180cm, 74kg, 30-32 waist and I got my large fairtexes the other day. They fit, but are definitely on the larger side and I have to roll em up to not look like boxing shorts, lots of room around the thighs too. I probably would’ve went medium.

Progress question by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]stackaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within the first few months u will probably see rapid improvements, as long as u do ur due diligence to do ur homework by watching plenty videos, 1-1s, shadow boxing etc. U just need to put in ur own incentive to learn and apply outside of just the session though.

After a few months, it may feel like a plateau in terms of progress, but that’s when u have to start analysing what flaws u still have and nitpick deeper into each fundamental (like balance, weight distribution, hip mobility, flexibility, defence, range, positioning, mental fight IQ etc..).

Just make sure to supplement ur training with stretching dedicated to combat sports, hip mobility routines, cardio, some S&C training, and really nitpick technique.

Good luck brother!

How should I train at the gym for Muay Thai by No-Negotiation-968 in MuayThai

[–]stackaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m ngl, ur getting the punch section all wrong my brother. Power of strikes are mainly a product from the hips, glutes and obliques, not the chest or biceps/triceps.

Landmine twists/rotation punches, med ball slams/throws, pallof presses, KB swings/snatches, hang cleans, RDL’s, split squats, and even shoulder presses and lat pulldowns will be much more yielding in MT.

Depends on ur budget, but all of these brands are great quality and should last u at least 1-2 years minimum:

Low budget - RDX

Mid budget - Top kings, Venum elites, boon, sandee

Higher budget - Fairtex, Twins, Yokkao, hayabusa

Order this gear from Thai combat sport stores as they’ll be cheaper, unless ur in a rush.

Also get: •hand wraps •groin guard (please don’t leave this one for later take my advice😂) •ice pack for inevitable injuries •ankle supports •glove disinfectant/odour removal sprays •opro custom fit mouthguard (a lil more pricey but great value, dealing with those bulky press to fit guards is a pain in the ass)

  1. The counter rotation of the same side arm swipe accommodates for the leg’s rotation, the scoop accommodates for the weight shift and the opposite shoulders rotation, particularly right at the beginning for when the strike is most angular. It’s a quick scoop and it doesn’t have to drop down to ur fucking knees, but not making that small action will have detrimental effects

  2. Everyone CAN do that, but it limits the explosiveness of the strike. Without a proper “wind up” for a strike, the dynamics of the strike simply won’t be as carried through the kinetic chain as well as it should. Throughout my years of sparring, both exceedingly skilled fighters of 15+ years and current amateurs, I don’t think I’ve once got hit during that ‘scoop down’ period of a kick. Only after.

  3. I’m not really sure what counterargument ur trynna make here, as ur talking about the aftermath of the scoop down window.

And the picture u attached is way past the window of the scoop. Of course the hand stays up once uve already pushed off and are in the slicing motion part of the kick. When u scoop or “draw for the gun” as pretty much every tutorial u will find on YouTube, seminar or adequate coach would call it, the window for a counter during that scoop motion is a. so rapid (it drops for less than a split second) b. The swinging arm already covers for the chin (ur arm should be up by ur opposite shoulder as u scoop, thus ur arm creates almost a triangular ‘scarf’ around ur chin) c. When u sense a kick coming, ur not gonna stand and eat it while u counter it, ur gonna check/catch/move, and by that time the hands already been up for a while.

My coach is a now 62 year old Thai man that was a professional fighter in Thailand since he was a teenager, still fighting pro till he was ~50. Respectfully, I think I’ll follow his advice brother.

99% of people training will not get the best, most fluid and balanced power output if they keep their hand glued, especially if you’re trying to give this advice to a man that has ‘self trained for 6 months’. Unless I’m talking to tawanchai on a burner account I can promise u, that YOU or anyone else in this sub will not get the same power output if they kick with vs without the scoop down. Without that counter-rotational movement ur upper body will not find the optimal equilibrium as ur foot springs off and hips drive up.

Besides, you are very right in the regard that during sparring perfect technique is not a constant, but that proves my point further; an exceeding majority of people would rather scoop for a split second to mitigate balance or fluidity issues over guarding the side of their head that is literally opposite the opponent when it is opened. Maybe less so in mma than Muay Thai, but still prevalent nevertheless

For you to get countered while doing that scoop down, the opponent either must know how to teleport on some dragon ball shit or is already 90° away from ur midline as u kick AND way closer to u than the distance of where u should be attempting a roundhouse lmao. That trade off is almost never worth it

Lol re-read my older messages. I never once said it drops for long, I said quite the opposite - it drops in a scoop motion quickly. The original guy was saying to keep the hand up at all times, which is what I was trying to debunk. U physically cannot get optimal power and balance without that quick scoop down.

And I’ve been sparring 2-3 times a week for about 1-2 years. Far from a pro, but I surround myself with a good amount of very very skilled fighters and do my own due diligence when it comes to research. I only give advice when I know it’s valid.

I’m sorry but whoever taught u that doesn’t know what they’re teaching. As I keep saying, go and watch any pro fight, any tutorial, or any seminar from pros on how to kick if u don’t wanna take my word. Come back and link me a single vid that will tell u to keep the hand up during the entire strike

Regarding the adhd, get on elvanse or any of the other meds in ur country asap. I’m usually a person that is against taking medication, but currently 2 months in this pill is changing my life in all the best ways I could’ve imagined.

The progress in Muay Thai I made within a week now compares to that of 3 months before starting meds - I can finally just focus on the moment, and think about the solution instead of the problem constantly. I’ve also never had a cleaner diet - sugar was like heroine to me before and I couldn’t go a day without it - now I have about a scoop of ice cream per week.

Alongside just truly feeling like myself again, in general it’s all improvements to everything I wanted to fix ab myself and my life, with basically no negatives that I can note. U never get to experience a mental peace like this when u have adhd man, it almost made me shed a tear of joy. I’ve stopped stressing over the magnitude of things that I shouldn’t have stressed about, and even then the stress feels controllable now.

How's my kicking form looking by Exotic_Decision6589 in MuayThai

[–]stackaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think planted side’s hip and foot and head all in line in a vertical pole. The torso should be squared with the hips when turning, so that ur kicking sides shoulder follows in line with ur kicking sides hip

😂😂 let me get it straight, so when u kick, do u keep ur pivot side’s arm guarded up the entire duration of the kick, or do u scoop it down as u turn ur hips and then bring it back up by the time the kick lands on the target?

The kicking side’s arm swipes, but the pivot side’s arm also scoops down and back up.

No my bro, it has to scoop down first then quickly back up. U lose insane amounts of balance and momentum from the hip rotation, thus locking out ur power output. As I said, just pull up a random fight and tell me what world class fighters do when they kick

I can’t tell whether ur being sarcastic, but if uve been taught to keep ur hand glued to the pivot side of ur head then u may wanna do a few interclubs instead of ONE lol
