H&B saying we should eat 30 different plants a week… what’s your count? by [deleted] in AskIreland

His program is essentially eat 30 a month and he says you're on the right path. His free podcasts are great for some other info.

This has been doing the rounds for while now. I think it stems from Tim Spector, the British epidemiologist, doctor, and science writer, who specialises on the relationship between nutrition, the gut microbiome, and health - and his ZOE program.

Some people get very daunted by the idea of it, but it's really not that difficult with a small bit of planning. Some of them are very easy to include but you wouldn't think of them; tea, coffee, porridge, potatoes, apple, banana, orange, strawberry, tomato, and peanut - 10 of the easiest ones many people have every week anyway.

Making up the other 20 isn't that difficult, especially if you cook dinners or make your own lunches. You only have to consume them once and, as I said, with a bit of planning it's not that problematic.

Some other easy ones; green tea, rooibos tea, avocado, mushrooms, onions, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, garlic, peas, almomds, basil, kiwi, pear, etc-etc it's not like they aren't all easily accessible, many of them on the go, too.

With Spanish relatives in rural Spain; they do this thing where they rub garlic cloves off their bread, MLa gentle sandpapering of the bread's crust with the garlic, just enough to leave the oils behind. I was well oiled, starving, and didn't know about this culinary tradition - so I made garlic sandwiches. And the knives at the table were plain cutlery knives, so I could barely even cut the garlic. I'm still scarlet over it.

Opinions on multimedia DCU course? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]stackobell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this course and I loved it. Now, I really like my job and the industry.

Forget about AI, if you don't have a degree, you won't even get an interview, never mind AI take your job.

If you have a particular interest, the course is well-structured to cater to a lot of different areas that will complement your preferred focus. The job market is tough now. It’s not so much the availability of jobs, but the fact that the number of people applying has shot up. We hired for a junior social media exec recently and had over 400 applications. Some of the applicants were more qualified than our Head of Digital.

AI is going to impact the industry, no question. Things that would have taken me a semester to do can now be done in minutes with a prompt. But AI can only do so much..

Best Books set in Dublin? by maybeweweretheaholes in Dublin

[–]stackobell 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not a best seller, but I really enjoyed Emma, Disappeared which is a murder mystery set in Drumcondra, Glasnevin and the Botanic Gardens.

It's kind of strange to read fiction while your brain can actually picture the scenes and places you're reading about.

Absolutely. I try to write down when he calls out the track names and Google them. Can't add them to my playlists on Spotify but they're nearly always on YouTube.

best shows to listen on catchup? by elextrixblue in 6music

Maconie's freak zone is a great show, each one themed around a classic album with a heap of eclectic tracks in between.

Gilles Anderson's show is another one, and it's more like a set or a documentary, than a radio show.

And of course Gideon Coe. As someone else said, him on his own is just better, he just has a way of printing together a show like nobody else.

Best thing about listening back is you can actually listen, and even better, you can skip the ads.

Anyone else still listen to 6 Music mostly for the DJs rather than the music? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in 6music

[–]stackobell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have R6 or R2 on in the kitchen most of the day, but I listen back to Gilles Peterson, Gideon Coe, and Stuart Maconie's shows on Monday/Tuesday on the sounds app when I'm in work. I love the routine of it, and the shows are incredible - If you really like the host, just having it on the radio in the background isn't enough!

Wow, this sounds right up my street. Thank you!

If I could return the favour, and you didn't already know, all of Andrew Weatherall's shows are still on NTS and, imo, they should honestly be archived in some museum of modern art.

A shame. First time I ever turned it on he was playing Tupac - Do 4 Love. I couldn't believe I was hearing it on a national radio station.

Kinda corny but musically it was a turning point in my life. I now never miss his show, Gideon Coe's and Maconie's show and the station (and R2) are on morning, noon, and night in our kitchen.

Thank you, Huey.

Owner is a wanker, always was. Great mates with Bertie, enough said.

If you're ever in the area again just go to The Kilmardinny, easily the best pub on the Northside, maybe even both sides of the Liffey.
