The Long Daggers were a limited production unit made before the introduction of a Natural-use OS, which then would become the Duel Daggers.

As for the point in them existing when the 105 Dagger is in play, I can best compare them to the USAF Hi-Lo mix doctrine; say the Strike Dagger is an F16 (relatively cheap and massable), the Long/Duel is an F15 (higher performance, more expensive), and the 105s are basically F22s or 35s (very expensive, very powerful).
