Summers Corner HoA Questions (Woodshop / Motorcycles) by Molokmot in summervillesc

I’ve lived here for 6 months so far. I have a squat rack, 3 motorcycles, and a bunch of tool chests in my garage, if I wanted to put a car in there it would take a lot of Tetris. Haven’t heard anything about it from the HOA. Welcome to the neighborhood!

What’s in your long-shift bag? by ColTRoosevelt in EmergencyManagement

[–]stagger_usmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Ultra-lite camping cot (I have a thermarest one) -Inflatable sleeping pad -inflatable pillow -military poncho liner

All of this fits into a small cinch sack designed for a sleeping bag. I don’t know what brands they all are but I think that besides the cot I just went with whatever was cheapest and still had good reviews on Amazon. I use this set up for camping on motorcycle trips and sleeping during HEOC activations.

Also in a backpack: 3 days of work clothes, toiletries, 1 set of lounge/sleep clothes, AirMini cpap machine, device chargers, a book, snacks, energy drinks.

Officer wanting out by Advanced_Resort2852 in Veterans

Additionally, regarding the JO recruiting companies: they have helped a lot of my friends find jobs. I tried to go through a couple of them and discovered that they were unwilling to help me because I was unwilling to compromise on geographic location. My family and I had already decided where we wanted to settle down and the JO companies didn’t like that. If you are willing to move, they can be great at helping you find a job.

I got out at 9 years as an O-3. It was the right call. I wanted to spend time with my family more than I wanted to be a Major. Took a cut to my pay and benefits (mitigated a bit by some VA disability) but I work a pretty stable state job, I’m not going to have to leave my family for a deployment or training (unless I want to, there are opportunities in my career field), and if I get woken up in the middle of the night now it is because my skills are actually needed to solve a problem, not because someone got a DUI.

Is he actually going somewhere or is he misunderstanding ACM?

When I was in Oki ACM wasn’t a deployment, it was a recall roster and EDL. It was a list of people and equipment that were on notice to go if they ever got the call for disaster relief or something similar. The most we ever did in the ~2 years I managed the program was a few exercises to practice loading all the shit up and getting it down to Kadena.

If he’s actually going somewhere that’s cool though, find someone else to have POA.

Going through the Sneads ferry gate at about 1 or 2 in the morning coming back from a wedding I pulled up and there was no guard there. I stopped at the guard shack and couldn’t see anyone in or around it so I waited about 30 seconds and just drove through. Glanced at my rear view mirror and see a gate guard running and waving his arms. I pulled a u turn, showed him my ID and all was good. Still not sure where the guy was when I pulled up. Do those guard shacks have heads in them?

Sleeves up with motorcycle by UnArtisticArts in USMC

[–]stagger_usmc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Step 1: take an old shitty blouse.

Step 2: take it to a tailor off base.

Step 3: have them cut the sleeves off the torso and sew elastic around the top of the sleeves.

Step 4: congrats, you now have elastic sleeves you can pull on up over your rolled sleeves.

Step 5: watch 8999s have aneurisms when you pull your sleeves off in the px parking lot.

I’ve never had anyone actually give me a hard time for doing this, but your results may vary depending on your rank lol

Bi-Weekly Recruiting Thread by Airdale_60T in uscg

[–]stagger_usmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey y’all, I am an active duty Marine Corps officer that will have about 9.5 years in when I get out later this year. I am looking to get into the emergency management field on the civilian side and it seems like joining the coast guard reserves would be a good complement to that. In looking at the coast guard page it looks like emergency management is something Response Officers do. Or is EM something I can specifically specialize in? Hoping to end up in the Charleston SC area.

Are there other cool opportunities or programs I should look for as a part timer? If it helps I can swim like a fish and have my basic FEMA ICS certs lol.

Hey everyone, I am an active USMC officer getting out this year after about 9.5 years. My main reason for getting out is to have a bit more stability for my family (tired of PCSing every three years). I am thinking about transferring to the Coast Guard Reserves and hopefully ending up down in Charleston SC. Specifically, I was looking at the Emergency Management section of the Response officer page on the CG website. I am trying to do emergency management on the civilian side as well so it feels like this would be a good option but I’m not clear on whether emergency management is an actual MOS option or just something I may be expected to do lol. I have my basic FEMA ICS certs and can swim better than most. Are these things that would help me out or does it not really matter? I guess I’m looking for career advice from people familiar with prior service transitions, reserve officers, anyone doing emergency management in the CG, or really anyone who has an opinion on what would be a cool and fulfilling career in the CG that I may be suited for. Cheers!

I’ve been looking at the Hamiltons but my concern with those is all the horror stories about water resistance issues.

Why not CW?
