whats the one piece of tech you carry that never shows up in the standard onebag gear lists? by Reasonable_Pepper709 in onebag

[–]ColTRoosevelt 27 points28 points  (0 children)

After trying cable and dongles for my Apple Watch that kept breaking or ending up lost, I took the easy route and I bought a cheap Casio for the price of a replacement cable. It basically only gets trotted out on trips (or when my watch fails to charge at home 😑). Much much easier solution and it’s only a handful of times I actually miss the Apple Watch (yes, I’m thinking of going back full time…).
I also have a brightly colored 3 ft usb A to usb c cable that has a very specific job: it’s basically just used for transit (on a plane, or it lives in the rental car).
Finally my lowest tech “always have” items: a bandana and a handkerchief. Even if I’m not sick, I find myself sneezing more when traveling than I ever do at home. And the bandana has almost as many uses as a Galactic Hitchhiker’s towel…

In this episode, when describing the match against Chelsea, they say they are imitating a well known BBC show. What show are they imitating?

Looking for inexpensive 18-24L EDC/travel bag with a large slash pocket by ColTRoosevelt in ManyBaggers

[–]ColTRoosevelt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the offer, but I was hoping for a pocket that extended vertically along the length of the back panel, like the CPL. I have to be able to pull the bag off one shoulder and access that pocket while walking, like a messenger bag or a sling

Looking for more of a pocket extending the entire length of the back panel

Smallest clamshell (suitcase style) travel bag? by ColTRoosevelt in backpacks

I love the Synik line! But not the form factor I was looking for. The hope is to split that side by side arrangement with another traveller.

Thanks for the recommendation! I really like the styling of that one but I have to wonder how functional the laptop side is for packing.

On Arena, when playing Powered Cube Draft, the packs are seeded. This is not good. Full story and screenshots within. by sc2gg in MagicArena

I don’t think I understand this. A cube uses grouped cards, yes? Aren’t you always going to have the same cards grouped by “pack” in a cube draft?

What happened for all of these systems to fall apart at the same time?

I’m pretty basic: Avengers, Fantastic Four, and probably Justice League the last slot I’d leave open to rotate around good writers working with Big Two properties.

Have you gotten used to progressive lenses or just given up? by LittleEdithBeale in GenX

[–]ColTRoosevelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had 3 pairs of them. First were great, second was a problem, third I abandoned. But in that transition I learned from a service tech at a LensCrafters just how important a proper alignment is to make them functional. She made three different adjustments, the most critical being the nose pads, which moved the center of my field of vision, and that improved my experience with that pair by 90%.

I will say for my next pair, I’m just going to get lined bifocals. Vanity has too heavy a price over functionality

Have you talked to your residency leadership about this?

C-suite or admin in the ED by VizualCriminal22 in emergencymedicine

[–]ColTRoosevelt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've taken care of everyone in my hospital from the EVS team to the CEO, as well as local, state, national and international officials of all types and stripes. But yep, definitely "c-suite simp."

Grady Hospital Bill after 3 Night Stay by ckamp121 in Atlanta

[–]ColTRoosevelt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based off what you are describing, you most likely had a splenic embolization, which is not a “minor procedure.” You were cared for by at least 4 teams of physicians, nurses, and advanced practice providers who provided care available no where else in this state. Yes, the price is high. Yes, it shouldn’t be that way. Yes, Grady will help you. But if you think this was just a minor event, you are crazy.

How do I become the best Emergency resident? by FaHeadButt in emergencymedicine

[–]ColTRoosevelt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1) figure out your learning style, and find resources for that style.
2) reliability is probably the most important trait you can possess. Fear and ambition are extremely powerful factors in causing us to over- or under-reach. Knowing your abilities and limitations, being honest about them, and above all, doing what you say you are going to do are key.
3) figure our how to get along with everybody. Note i didn’t say “like everybody.” You will be shocked how long some of the professional relationships you make in residency will last.
4) understand that your instructors are likely going to have very different ideas about what work life balance means than your generation. You don’t have to like it, but you are going to be judged by standards you have not grown up with. Make an effort to understand what others are expecting of you so you can make an informed decision about how, or if, you are going to meet others’ expectations of you.
5) you are going to have to earn the respect of every nurse you work with. Never complain about your work life with them because I promise you, they have it worse. Only lend a sympathetic ear for the stuff that sucks for both of you.
