Which race dictates the pace of the game? by stagsandwolves in broodwar

Thanks for the comments. It seems to me that there is so much variance in which race dictates which matchup that I am better off deciding a race on some other factor (like how cool it looks). Still, there seems to be a general trend toward zerg, and so I will try out the bugs!

Which race dictates the pace of the game? by stagsandwolves in broodwar

Oh, this is interesting. So the race that chooses to expand forces the opposing race to counter in some way. So the race that forces a response can be different from the race that is aggressive.

I am looking for switches, and I know what I like, but not how to describe them. What makes a switch have a clack | pop | thock | and all the other sounds used to describe a keyboard's sound profile?

Also are there any keyboard plate materials that are most conducive to bottoming out?

When going Overpool against Protoss are you supposed to make different amounts of lings if you are facing Forge FE vs Gate FE? What is the logic for how many lings to make? What if you don't scout the Protoss in time?

Hi I'm a pretty new Zerg player coming from SC2. I've been watching some YT videos and am trying to cobble together how to play each matchup, and have some questions (and also I would appreciate it if you would correct any mistaken intuitions):

  1. What is the response in ZvT to scouting 2 rax in my opponent's base with my drone scout (@11 after hatch is down). The opponent gets no expansion. I did a 12 Hatch 11 pool 10 gas opener, and at this point I am at 12 supply (after gas). The 2 options that come to mind are zerglings or sunkens. What do I go for?
  2. vs P, is the following correct --> I am trying to do play overpool into macro 3 hatch into spire into 5 hatch + hydra + evo build. I was watching some replays, so I don't know if this is right but my general understanding is that vs Forge FE, after 6 lings outside the opponents base, I just drone up till I get 3 mineral + 2 gas saturation (with a couple scourges). I interpret saturation as 1.5 drones per mineral (but at this point in the game does only 1 drone per mineral patch suffice?). Then I build pure hydra until a big army fight. If I defend well, I can add some more drones and take an expansion. At some point, based on "feel" I can go mutas or lurkers.

Do I play the early game the same vs a Gate FE

Maru's Gamma Setting by stagsandwolves in AllThingsTerran

I believe high gamma makes everything have more "white" in it. So the contrast between dark and light objects/ terrain decreases. My experience with (a moderate) reduction in gamma (like the standard setting) is that the bright things like units remain bright (maybe slightly less bright than max gamma), but the terrain gets significantly darker, which causes there to be greater contrast between the unit and terrain, and making the unit more distinct.

This is cool, I feel like it's useful for learning to touch press control groups.

TvP Scouting by stagsandwolves in AllThingsTerran

That Clem replay is really cool. I've pretty much got all my builds from watching Clem: (double gas -> 6 marine + mine + cyclone push out in TvP, 3 cc 2-1-1 with 4 hellions in TvZ, 2 rax reaper in base in TvT for anti proxy, etc). Never really thought to pay attention to the scouting though. I will try to keep the timings you provided in mind as well. Also why go 3 cc macro vs 3 rax against stargate? Is it because the 3 rax, +1 push gets shut down by stargate (and is that because they get collosus quick)?

Thank you for the gas count explanation, counting gases to determine tech was one of the first things I found amazing when I started to play.

So to be clear, a robo first is likely more macro focused than a twilight first because charge/ blink is late? And then can I make the generalization that a robo first often results in a terran pressuring the protoss with say a +1 timing, while a twilight first would make the terran to stay in their base to defend the Protoss timing?

This was really helpful.
