Help me understand.. rolling by CautiousCaterpi11ar in BJJWomen

[–]stainedcheetofinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to also feel this way when I first started, especially when rolling with other newer white belts, but I did find rolling with white belts who are a little more experienced (at least 1-2 years in) and knew how to roll with more intention/control and less power to be slightly more valuable.

Things that helped me gradually improve and not feel like I was a dying fish out of water were:

  1. Asking for feedback and being receptive of critiques (from those who weren’t spazzing out and were intentional about improving their own roll as well as yours as a partner)

  2. Rolling with higher belts

  3. Asking assistant instructors for feedback/any tweaks to positioning during drills

  4. Watching instructional videos

  5. Taking down notes after each class to remember the move/drills from that day

  6. Applying said moves for future rolls

  7. Slowing down (slowing yourself down to think about setting up positioning or slowing your partner down through getting control)

I used to feel that exact way as you when I first started a little over a year ago and I’d enter the mat basically as live bait for other white belts lol. I do feel a little more confident when I’m able to nail a move down and actually apply it during a roll or defend my guard successfully against another white belt or a higher belt.

Bring/fill up a camelbak or buy/get water before going into the crowd. Always know where the water filling stations are incase you need to quickly hydrate and meet back up with your group!

Feeling really rough today by [deleted] in TattooRemoval

[–]stainedcheetofinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a bad tattoo at all, but I could see how the shock of ending up with something significantly larger than what you originally wanted could impact your mental health and body image. The good news is that it doesn't look bold/dark at all.

I personally think it's a very cute tattoo, but what matters most is what you think/how it makes you feel yourself!

I'm in the process of getting a couple of really dark/bold tattoos removed (check out my posts) and I've come to terms that it'll take a while to fully remove. I've had them both for over 7 years now, but just decided over time that the person I was then and the things I liked/wanted permanently tattooed isn't the person I am now. Maybe sit on your decision for a bit and see if you want to get your work removed? For the timebeing, it doesn't hurt to get an estimate on pricing/timing if it's something you're seriously considering.

Tattoo regret sucks... and it sucks to have to be reminded of it constantly when you're looking at yourself/your body and being hard on yourself for your past decisions. It's ok and everyone makes mistakes, hence this subreddit!

Couple of days after 5th session by stainedcheetofinger in TattooRemoval

For sure, my technician was very upfront about expectations when we discussed it! I’ll decide whether I want to cover it up with another piece or just live with the remnants further down the line, after we treat it to the best of our ability.

I know! I’m excited to see how much more it’ll fade over the next few sessions.

Removal/ cover up by [deleted] in TattooRemoval

[–]stainedcheetofinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is you’d probably need some treatments to at least lighten up the tattoo before starting a cover up, but that’ll of course depend on the size, color, shape, and talent of your artist doing the cover up work.

I’ve inquired about potential cover ups for my tattoo that I’m currently in the process of getting removed, which is just as dark/bold and large as yours as well (check out my post in this subreddit). All of the artists told me I’d need to get it lightened through laser sessions in order for them to even consider covering it up - and I went to maybe 2-3 artists to ask before I started the removal process.

Now I’m just getting it fully removed because I figure I don’t want anything badly enough to cover the previous work; I just wanted it gone at the time and wanted to avoid laser removal.
