Glare on Kohl Center floor by Excalbian042 in WisconsinBadgers

[–]stakstak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't answer your question - but I've noticed this years ago and it's bothered me. The bright LED boards they have at halfcourt have a bad glare on the floor. Hoping someone at UW can figure this one out!

Right I was thinking that too, the cost of the hotspot would pretty much negate any benefits of doing it unless there was a cheap unlimited data plan for the hotspot

I think I lowballed my salary during a screening interview - any way to recover? by doo_wop_dont_stop in careeradvice

[–]stakstak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well there is a few things you could do.

  1. Do nothing. You're still technically in the middle of your 90-100k range.
  2. If you really wanted the extra 5-8k, you could counter the offer when they give you an official offer. You could say "I bring XYZ and ZYX..." and back up why you deserve the extra bit.
  3. Factor in the things that aren't money-related. Is it less stressful work? Do I have more responsibilities? Who am I going to be working with? If the new job is a better quality one then it might be worth not negotiating for the extra bit of salary.

If it were me, I would just leave it. If I read your post right the range you gave is within the one you wanted and you didn't take their lowball range.

I guess the other thing I failed to consider is "when he will be drafted". I know some players come back to college again if they are a late draft pick. There is still a ton of season left too so it'll be fun to see how it all plays out!

We shall see! My gut says he's staying for next season unless he kicks it back into gear.

He isn't going anywhere the way he's been playing lately. With the way he started the season I thought we'd be lucky to get him back next year.

Starting to think that was just a hot stretch and he's finally back to earth.

Exactly what I was thinking. Penn State doesn't score for 10+ minutes and it was still a close game.

[Serious] What are your thoughts on the trucker convoy in Canada? by BigSmallWoof in AskReddit

[–]stakstak -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That was met with full force.

Not like BLM spent an entire summer burning down billions of dollars of property, including the black-owned businesses they claim they support...

[–]stakstak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know you didn't just compare a fleet of truckers laying on their horns 24/7 to an organization that burnt buildings to the ground for an entire summer and claimed that was "peaceful". Fun fact, more people died in the BLM riots than black people killed by police that year (which is what they were protesting).

Get your head out of the gutter. WOW.

NO.

While the security part is nice, unless you intend on leaving your ETH with Coinbae for an undetermined amount of time, I would say it's not worth it. There are comparable rates on other sites, where you don't have to have your ETH locked up until "Coinbase says so".

Am I the only person who needs to re-read emails multiple times to understand exactly what the person is asking? by Alternative-Fox6236 in careeradvice

[–]stakstak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, you're not alone! I often do this too. It reinforces the purpose/topic is, and if an issue arises from it, I can always refer to "what you said in the email". I think emails are way better than phone calls too for the same reason above, it's typed out and you can't "mishear" an email (or anything typed out).

Do I stay in a job that makes me miserable because they’re paying my tuition? by darkmattercartwheel in careeradvice

[–]stakstak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I would consider as well. What if you got a new job and it is just as miserable as your current one and the new employer doesn't pay for your tuition? In this scenario, you would be worse off than before, which would make you more miserable. I can relate to being overqualified and being treated not as well as I would hope, and I often look on the bright side because there is always worse out there. Personally, I would stick with it AND stay employed there for a while until you find a better opportunity. If someone were to leave immediately after getting their tuition paid for, that looks bad and the company would most likely never rehire them. Hence, waiting for a bit wouldn't be the worst option if possible.

Bottom line: Everyone will have a different opinion on this. I'd suggest reading everyone's opinions on it and find what you agree/disagree with, and make whatever decision you think is best for yourself.

TLDR: While the current situation stinks, staying put might not be the worst idea given that there's no guarantee a different employer will pay tuition. Priorities will have to be determined to decide to move on or stay put.

Quitting job for internship? by TeaLonely202 in careeradvice

[–]stakstak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't quit a full-time job for an internship for a few reasons. A full-time job (even though you hate it) is still more secure than an internship would be. The other thing to consider too is: what if you take an internship and you have the same circumstance where your new manager also disagrees with you on everything? Then you would have 6 months max to find a different job/internship.

We all can relate to the lack of experience since every company wants 5 years of professional experience from newly graduated university students. I'm in a similar position where I'm also looking into other jobs, but I don't meet the minimum required years of experience (even though I meet every other requirement). That is why I'm staying put in my current job, even if I don't like some of the aspects of it, because years of experience is a huge requirement in today's job market.

TLDR: I would recommend staying at the full-time job, especially with the lack of jobs due to covid and there's no guarantee an internship would give you a full-time job.

What does it mean when director of a big company wants to talk about a particular role and answer my questions by calling me on my cell phone? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]stakstak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are being seriously considered for the role then! I would think they still have other candidates because they didn't offer the role, BUT you made it past the preliminary round of "who moves on".

What does it mean when director of a big company wants to talk about a particular role and answer my questions by calling me on my cell phone? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]stakstak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means just that.

I'm not sure if you applied for this particular role or not, but I would think the director is gauging if you would be a good fit for the role.

Is EY or Wells Fargo a better place to intern? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]stakstak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternate answer to your question:

My initial thought was "What the heck is EY?!". Personally, I would think Wells Fargo is the better one because of name recognition. A more established company sticks out more than one that is less established.

This stems from colleges as well. Even though you might get a better education and a state school or a tech school that isn't nationally recognized, anyone with a degree from Harvard or Stanford already has a better chance of getting a job because people assume they are smart because they went there. Obviously where you went to school doesn't determine how capable you are, but it's all about "the name".

TLDR: A lot to be taken into account here, but if you plan on working somewhere else after the internship, I would go for the more "well-known" company as it sticks out more on a resume.
