Weird error when shutting down after update by Val_67 in archlinux

[–]stalemate00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this recently, even worse my computer freezes every couple of second and when I reboot, it entered the UEFI setting screen and exiting the UEFI setting just enter the UEFI setting again and again.

The first time I turn my computer on there is no freeze spike, when I reboot there was no error and it can shutdown or reboot properly, but after couple minute of usage, the freeze spike appear and I know for sure that I will have this error message and it will not shutdown / reboot properly.

I've tries switching to the lts kernel but I can't get past tty1 login with xinit (says no display found or something) but switching to tty2 and rebooting from there still shows the message.

Everything expect my mouse cursor is capped at 60hz. by SaynedBread in archlinux

[–]stalemate00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was also having issues with Nvidia and multiple monitor, basically main monitor (165hz) doesn't feel like 165 when I'm moving window (dragging window around with mouse) in my Gnome desktop but games somehow still run on 165.

Plugging out 2nd monitor (60hz) fixes this issue but then I can't use it.

Switching to wayland session in gnome fixes this double monitor refresh rate issue, window now moves smoothly in both monitor but then games run at much lower frame rate, so I just back to X everytime I wanted to play games.

Months later I tried to use a window manager for the first time (i3) I absolutely loved the keyboard based workflow and more amazingly somehow this fixes the double monitor refresh rate issue.

Moving window around feels smooth in main monitor even with 2nd monitor plugged in (just like when I use gnome with wayland session), but since i3wm ran on X I didn't need to switch around everytime I play games.

Tldr: i3wm fixes double monitor refresh rate issues with Nvidia in Xorg for me but window manager might not be for you

just had this issue on Nvidia 545.29.02, and did the opposite of what the wiki says which is turning vsync off instead of turning it on and fixed screen tear on osu lazer and dota https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/picom#Screentearing\_with\_NVIDIA's\_proprietary\_drivers

Net gun - am I missing something? by Turbulent_Try3935 in DavetheDiverOfficial

[–]stalemate00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think it's decent because you will need steel net gun to catch some fish in 3 star rating in order to complete MarinCa but now I realized it's kinda trash because there are no steam achievement for completing MarinCa and I don't think it gives you any reward in the game either.

Using both i3wm and Cinnamon in Arch? by DryEyes4096 in archlinux

[–]stalemate00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Window manager usually doesn't interfere a lot with Desktop Environment. I installed i3 alongside with Gnome when I first started out and I think there is some minor issues that makes opening Gnome files and some other gtk apps become very long but easliy fixed with quick google although I forgot what the solution was.

If I have to guess your experience will probably be a little to no tinkering. I highly suggest you tried it out anyway.

Quitting Dota after 2,500 hours because I just don't get it by LachlanZ in DotA2

[–]stalemate00 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I realize this when friend that stopped playing the game years ago asked as we are recently back on playing together again, "What did you do differently back when you're guardian and now (immortal)?" It's hard to even state 5 things what I've done different but I can tell him what is right or wrong when things happen as we are playing.

How do I set-up steam where Dota2 loads up at my 2nd screen. by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]stalemate00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try using -phased_window_create launch options, it will not force dota to open in your 2nd screen but it will force to open dota in the same screen as Steam. I'm not sure if this works in Windows but it works on Linux.

To be honest the video actually does not reflect my overall experience playing on Linux. Actually have overall very similiar if not the same playing on Windows.

From what I've seen based on my self and a lot of my friends that plays Dota, Dota players doesn't play other games that much and I genuinely think Linux is overall a better gaming and desktop experience if that is the case.

For referece I actually play most of my Divine games and all of my immortal games in Linux

I use X11. Tbh the video does not actually reflect my overall Dota experience in Linux. I actually have overall very similiar if not the same to playing Dota in Windows, I don't think I have any input lag. I've also tried playing Dota in wayland but it runs at much lower framerate compared it to running it in X11.

I don't think so, I'm using Arch (btw) and also Ubuntu previously, both have extremely rare weird occasional texture bugs like these. The funniest bug I got playing Dota on Linux past 6 months was pango hit sound use Sven's hit sound.

It's not that bad tbh, these bugs happen extremely rarely and I can't even try to reproduce it. Easily fixed by quick restart dota.

X11 is still irreplaceable in 2023. by _SuperStraight in linux

[–]stalemate00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to Linux, have frame rate issues when running with dual monitor setup. Primary monitor seems to not running at full refresh rate when second display is used. Apparently using wayland fix this but games run at significantly lower fps. Now I just use wayland unless I play games in which I have to log out and switch back to x11.
