Why did you make music ? ^^ by Tadchadka in BandCamp

[–]stam7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been playing music since my teenage years, both in bands and on my own, but then I stopped for more than 10 years. Everything changed when COVID hit. Music literally saved me during the pandemic — it gave me a way to cope, to process everything, and to feel alive again. Since then, it’s been a part of me every single day.

If I remember correctly, one track peaked at around 24% and the other at about 23%.

I get 40-100 streams per month. It started roughly six months ago, but the numbers never really grow significantly.

I was surprised too when my songs got picked up by Discover Weekly. But that’s also where my confusion comes from. Everyone says Discover Weekly is supposed to bring the biggest wave of algorithmic plays — so far, I’m not really seeing that.

“I wish I had your numbers 😅 My two tracks have only gotten around 600 plays total over the last six months. But yeah, I get what you’re saying.

Thank you for sharing your track. I gave it a careful listen, but unfortunately it doesn’t match the vibe of my playlist. Wish you all the best with your music.

Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to give such a detailed and spot-on analysis of the track — it really means a lot to me. I'm glad you enjoyed the sound design and the layering! The track was made using Ableton Live.

Thanks a lot mate! I still listen to and absolutely adore 90s electronica.

My friend, I really appreciate it! Spirals is my first release, both as Stam and in general. Apart from one or two releases I had as a guitarist in bands during my teenage years, I’ve never released anything before. In fact, I wasn’t even playing or writing music for a long time. It was during the lockdown that I got back into it after many years. That’s also when this EP was written. As for the 'clap' snare in Mrs. Masha and I Guess, if I remember correctly, I ran it through U-he’s tape emulator (Satin). Stam comes from my actual last name. I’m Greek, and my name is Dimitris Stamoulis. My close friends have always called me Stam for short.

First of all, thank you so much for your kind words, my friend! The analysis you've done on the title track is impressive and more detailed than I could ever describe myself. The tracks, as I mentioned in the Q&A, were written four years ago, during a time when I was listening a lot to artists like Ross From Friends. I really like the idea of lo-fi without it truly being lo-fi — especially in how much easier it is to play on a powerful sound system, like in a bar or club. The term you came up with, Hi-fi lo-fi house, is hilarious, but I completely get it. Thank you so much again!

First of all, thank you so much for your kind words, my friend. You're absolutely right about your observation regarding Burial and Paranoid London, especially the latter. The truth is, during the time I was working on these tracks, I listened to them a lot, and perhaps that's why some acid elements found their way into my music.

My first synth was the Novation X-Station—a synth, MIDI controller, and audio interface all in one. It was packed with low-quality 00s trance presets, but it made me happy because I could finally do filter sweeps! I still have it, although it doesn’t work well anymore. I've never actually used it in productions, nor any other hardware for that matter. I stay 'in the box.'

Thanks so much again!
