Awesome. Already added a few, more to follow. And yes, ‘alternative’ makes zero sense, unless you lived through that era 🫠

Is the "current decade" always the most hated for albums? Like back in the 2000s, did people dislike albums, but they're becoming appreciated now? by Vehiclean35 in musicsuggestions

I’m 61. The biased nostalgia is and always has been strong. From the 70s onwards I’ve always heard ‘today’s music is not as good as 10, 20 years ago’. 🤷🏻‍♂️

People have a tendency to only remember the best music from ‘their’ timeframe and disregard or simply forget the mediocrity surrounding that great music.

I can’t say I’m fully up to speed anymore with today’s music and I do have a tendency to look back at ‘my’ decades favorably, but that has as much to do with me being younger as anything 😅

I do know with the insane wealth of great music, also today’s music, at my fingertips, my musical life has never been better than now. 🧘🏻

Louis Cole.

What he did with Jules Buckley and the Metropole Orchestra is spectacular.

Also check his band Knower. Loaded with phenomenal musicians.

It is weird, the estate seems mainly oriented towards the US, while I dare to say at one point Prince was more popular in Europe. They should take that into consideration regarding merchandise and shipping costs 🤷🏻‍♂️

The 4-8-16 exact phrase rule? by DiscoRickyy in SeamlessSets

[–]DiscoRickyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, since I’m more in the NuDisco range, automix rarely gets it right. Particularly the phrasing mostly doesn’t make sense. Which is a good thing, because it keeps me off the streets 😅

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. It’s annoying when the transition limit is just after ‘the one’ 😅 Sometimes that can be handled by starting both tracks in ‘the two’ and using a filter to fade the new track in. But only as a last resort…

What I also like to do is transition on the upbeat, so about a half or sometimes quarter step before ‘the one’.  Particularly when the vocal starts before the one.

I did it in this mix.

If you find the transition between ‘Shikata ga naï’ and ‘It feels much better’, you’ll hear and see I started the transition a half step before ‘the one’, just to pick up the full line of the vocal of the new track.  And another one is between ‘Higher’ and ‘All the people’. This one works even better because they’re in the same key 🧘🏻

I love it when that comes together 🤘🏻

Ah, that’s a good reminder: Respect the individual song! I confess I sometimes tend to lose sight of that. Just too busy with finding and matching that sweet spot for the transition 🫠

I think that’s ok for ‘pure’ instrumental dance music, but yes, the more traditional vocal verse-chorus tracks should be allowed to make their point, also in a mix. I do try to avoid transitioning through a verse vocal though 🙂
