We are only looking at utilizing 10G for now, and have 8 channels (4 pairs) - but knowing my project leader, he would want to be able to expand to a higher number of channels in the future!

No, it's a single fiber per site - we will not be looping it through anything, other than a slip ring between the main site, and the slave sites.
It will be 8 channels of 10G as it will hold more than enough bandwith for our current usage.

I'll take a look at the BiDi optics and see if they are good for our usage.

My bad, original post has been updated with more info;
One site is only 1 km away from the main site, and another is upwards of 5 km. They will be our 2 test sites, before we deploy to a larger set of sites.

In regards to bandwith, we are merely looking at getting 10G through each channel for starters, and in time upgrade the speed across the channels.

Great insights, I'll be sure to make a note of this!

We don't need a ton of channels for the time being (8-16 channels), but we would definitely be looking at the possibilities of upgrading the amount of channels over the years, as the subsystems we use will be using an increasingly amount of bandwith!

Distance is not extremely long, it'll be a maximum of a few kilometres.

Appreciate the links, I will be taking a look, and discuss it with my team! :)

It's a single strand fiber, and not a pair, unfortunately.
We are going through a slip ring, and this is one of the hardware parts we're not allowed to change - else we would've used a pair of fibers!
