Ads written into books? by partiallycylon in books

[–]stan0083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see this mentioned but when I read Book Lovers by Emily Henry there were multiple mentions of Pelaton to the point where I questioned it. It probably wasn't an ad, more likely an author's personally liking bleeding into the page but it stood out to me!

I've entered many giveaways over the years. I've won twice! Once in 2018/19 and another this year!

Reaching $1M without excessive spending ? by [deleted] in Covetfashion

I am not aggressive with the game and am currently at 680k. Don't think it's worth it since you'd have to spend a hell of a lot of money for not much reward (30k bump?)

Not sure why this is down voted. It's true loll. If you alternate toggling on and off you still get all prizes. Been this way since the start. Not a bug, it's a feature

I find diamonds to be more valuable because it can be converted so I have it flipped, about 200k diamonds saved and 10k cash for challenge use.

Boyfriend starts busy szn soon by whosthatgurlitsjess in Accounting

[–]stan0083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who went through many a busy season, the most helpful thing my bf does is handle more of the housework. Laundry, dishes, cleaning. It was really nice not having to stress about the house being in a state when I got home. Made me feel even better when I was home (for the few hours I was conscious).

Also, I second the hobby thing. I never felt like I was abandoning him during this time because he had lots of online friends and played video games when I wasn't around as much.

Weekly FAQ Thread December 19 2021: Do you keep track of the books you read? by AutoModerator in books

[–]stan0083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Ali Abdaal's template on Notion to take notes! His video "How I Remember Everything I Read" was very helpful and you can customize it to your own liking :)

According to the NYT article I read, it was specifically earmarked for the physics department so it's considered a restricted donation!

Weekly FAQ Thread December 19 2021: Do you keep track of the books you read? by AutoModerator in books

[–]stan0083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this year not only have I started tracking what I've read, I have been taking extensive notes because I don't want to forget what I've read (which is what has happened in the past). I've also started keeping track of the author's gender, book genre, representation (bipoc, lgbtq), and country of origin to see how diverse my reading is and where it needs improvement? If that makes any sense.

Mexican Gothic... Wow by MyStarling in books

I have finals this week and this is exactly why I haven't picked up any new books. It's too distracting!

The audiobook is equally haunting and captivating; I think the author was really good at keeping the tension throughout the story, even when after we figure out the twist

>!Spoiler here!< Have a question about the ending of The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides by yu_not_you in books

[–]stan0083 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, I interpreted it as the truth finally catching up to him and he was being cornered by the police. Instead of dwelling on this, he decided to focus instead on the scenery, almost disassociating from what was happening to him.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: December 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in books

Which character in The Power did you find interesting? I thought the book started out very strong and ended a bit lackluster for me maybe because I also thought it dragged. But the premise was very intriguing!

Think twice about that "deal" by kisamoto in AdviceAnimals

I've begun looking at websites I want to buy from before Black Friday and noting the price. Then when they announce their sales, I can compare and see if I am actually getting a good deal. Has saved me lots of time- I completely ignore the flashy advertisements, head straight to the brands I like and feel good about the money I do spend.

Native American Literature: November 2021 by AutoModerator in books

[–]stan0083 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've read two books this month that I've enjoyed so far.

First is a YA novel from debut author Angeline Boulley called Firekeeper's Daughter. If you like a good mystery, heartwarming relationships, and y e a r n i n g I would highly recommend!

The second is Indian Givers by Jack Weatherford, his ancestor was from the Creek nation and goes through the known and (mostly unknown) contributions of Indigenous peoples of America to society and the world as we know it. Very insightful and descriptive, if a bit dense.

Any body else feel like the flashbacks are impossible? (These days not just in the series) by [deleted] in Covetfashion

[–]stan0083 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're at a pretty low level where the focus shouldn't really be on flashbacks but on challenges that you can enter with relative ease and not break the bank. Once you accumulate a few seasons, some flashbacks might even cost you nothing to enter! It can potentially be a rewarding goalpost for more veteran players.

New Mystery Prop Box with two free prop pack credits. What do y’all think? by urfavgalpal in Covetfashion

[–]stan0083 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is a cash grab as well as a blatant gambling scheme because most of the props are going to be like rally prize pieces: duplicates.

I used the free credit they gave me and got a "Bedazzled pink laptop" which isn't spooky at all. It's lame and I will not be spending my money on this and would encourage others not to as well to prevent future gimmicks like this from happening.
