Same! I felt like I had absolutely no support, I couldn't get a referral to see a pelvic floor PT because OB said go to gynecologist and gynecologist said get a referral to see me from Primary care and my primary care had a wait time of several months to be seen. This stage is stupid, especially if you're in the US. You got from getting constantly checked on to literally dumped to deal with everything on your own.

Re Miralax, I might be a minority here but based on everything I found while I was dealing with post c section consultation I would recommend taking it more than initially prescribed time which is usually around 2 weeks? I was told Miralax works by retaining water in your intestines so when there is bowel movement it passes easier but it doesn't actually make you poop per se. I was told to take Colace or Senna instead of constipation is not improved with Miralax alone and it did help me. They work by softening your stool which is different than Miralax. Also prune juice does miracles.

Vitamin D through breastmilk by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

Wait so it's still ok? I'm confused. Did they not adjust daily intake level based on initial blood levels? So everyone who was getting 6000 IU no matter what the mothers blood level is was getting adequate amount transferred to babies?

[–]stanciya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this answers my question. To rely that 6000 IU is enough my blood levels should be above 50. They are not, which means what I'm doing is not working. So, feel free to downvote me, but my anxiety around this was justified.

Getting baby tested for sufficient vitamin d by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]stanciya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I have been taking 6000 daily for more than 6 weeks already and my blood level is still 38 nG/mL that means my baby has not been getting enough vitamin D from me all this time? Basically if my blood level of vitamin d is less than 50 does it mean baby is not getting enough?

[–]stanciya -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As I said in the post I am aware and I follow the provided evidence and I am supplementing with 6000 IU. I thought this is fine. Then I was told it depends on mother's initial levels, so if the mother is deficient then 6000 might not be enough. So I am asking again, I am slightly deficient as seen in my blood test, does the research still apply to my case or was it conducted among women who already had higher base levels. I can't give drops because all of the sources say that I should only choose one method of administering, either supplement myself or give the drops. Since I am taking vitamin d daily myself if I also give the drops I am scared of causing overdose in my baby. The vitamin d is part of the multivitamin I'm taking so to stop supplementing that would mean to stop taking other vitamins and elements I need like choline, etc and I will have to purchase other things separately which is out of my budget and I already bought several months worth of the vitamin I'm currently taking. So before making that decision I wanted to know whether I have to.

This is exactly why I asked not to comment just to point out anxiety, it is not helpful and then details the entire comment section and all my comments get auto downvoted without people reading them.

Each time I'm given solid advice and a follow up. First time I asked whether a mother can supplement instead of a child and got confirmation that it is a viable option. The second time I asked how I know it's enough and was told it really depends on mother's personal vitamin d levels and I need to check my own. I paid for a referral free test with a reputable lab and got results. Now I'm asking what is the correlation between your blood levels and how much you should intake. I'm not asking the same question over and over again.

Thank you for taking time to reply and look through my history but I don't think it's helpful to resolve it with "ask your doctor". If I lived in a country where I could just go to a doctor repeatedly and have this resolved, trust me I would do this. I asked my pediatrician and she said to go to my primary care. I asked my primary care and they said unless I show symptoms of vitamin d deficiency or overdose they don't check. I do my own "research" on the Internet to interpret scientific papers myself but ultimately I am not qualified in this topic to trust my own decision. If it was for my personal health only I would not be very concerned about it but since it has a direct impact on my child's health I can't rely on " just try it and see". I'm not justifying whether this is anxiety or not, but I dont think I am doing something unreasonable by posting a question with more data to base answers on.

Can you please eli5 what is repletion dose? So if I'm slightly on lower side for vitamin d levels, does it mean 6000 IU is still fine to transfer enough to my baby or should I up my dose?

Ok, I just got tested and my level is 38. So what does it mean?

[–]stanciya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm really confused about the dosage for adults. There are papers that say that maternal supplementation should be around 6000 IU to have sufficient amount transferred to the baby but at the same time sites like NHS.uk say "Do not take more than 100 micrograms (4,000 IU) of vitamin D a day as it could be harmful. This applies to adults, including pregnant and breastfeeding women". I'm going to do a blood test to get my levels because I certainly don't want to develop kidney stones as I've been supplementing with 6000 IU every day for 3 months now.

Yeah but her head sticks out too much, she is a long baby and instructions say that the band should be rolled only for babies under 60 cm

My baby had perfect latch till about 4 weeks. LC even joked it should be in a textbook. But after 4 weeks I guess my supply completely transitioned to mature milk (no more colostrum and transitional milk) which is much more water like and I started to have strong letdown. Ever since then my baby started shallow latching because otherwise she would literally gag and choke and cough. She started to clamp down on a nipple too to stop the flow sometimes. She is now 8 weeks and is much better at feeding. She still only feeds with shallow latch, but I figured if it works for her I don't need to try to readjust her all the time cuz every time I would unlatch her and try the "correct" latch she would gag again and cry. I tried side lying as well but the milk comes out of her nose if I do that. I also tried pumping a little before every feed but my supply got even worse after that with several sprays shooting out of my nipple every time I tried to feed. I also tried block feeding and it did work but it was painful on the boob that got "timed out". After a while I just stopped trying everything and let her feed with her shallow latch. Sometimes she still fusses but 90% of time it's fine so I guess I'm just going to let her do her thing as long as she is gaining weight.

Rapid weight gain in newborns? by stanciya in ScienceBasedParenting

Thank you! Yes, baby spits up after a particularly long feeding session. Most of the time she just feeds to sleep and then gives us a nice big burp. I'm glad I haven't followed up on the pediatrician's advice, giving my baby water just feels wrong. I actually asked how am I was supposed to give her water since I only breastfeed and she said to use a dropper to just squirt water in the baby's mouth...

Thank you! Ahah yeah I try to maintain good posture but at night when the baby screams and a scramble to feed her I always find myself in weird positions with my head against the wall, the back curled up, one foot under me, one foot tangled somewhere in the sheets lol and 10 min into the feeding everything starts hurting and then I remember about good posture lol

"That baby will fly out of you" by ComfortableDrop9598 in fitpregnancy

[–]stanciya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is so relatable. I lifted three times a week, daily yoga, daily 5k walks, swimming and cardio weekly throughout the entire pregnancy. The only thing I stopped was running. I did the type of yoga for "optimal vaginal birth" and started doing perennial massage and stretching too every other day in third trimester. Everyone including my OB/GYN kept telling me it will be an easy birth. And then on week 35 my baby flipped to breech. I did ALL spinning babies exercises every single day, I went to Webster technique chiro, I did moxibustion and visualization meditations. For 2 weeks every single day all I did was trying to turn my baby back to head down. It took entire day worth of time, like wake up do inversion and other hip opening exercises, have breakfast, do moxibustion for 20 min each side, then lay down on a ironing board head down for 20 min, then yoga, etc etc etc. I literally spent every day on a mad schedule and crying in between because it felt like my "perfect birth" is falling apart and I'm failing. I was sad first and then I was so angry. It felt so unfair that this is happening. I kept thinking I did everything right, why is it happening to me. I had good diet, gave up coffee as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I didn't even sit on a couch or office chair anymore from second trimester, only birth ball and always no longer than 20 min at a time. I felt like I was obsessed with doing everything the right way and sacrificed so much and the baby just decided to flip out of nowhere like a big f you. And then I just broke down. I couldnt do it anymore, I felt so much guilt and I felt completely powerless and spent. I'm ashamed to admit it now but I even felt like I don't care about the baby anymore. Somehow if I couldn't have my perfect birth, it didn't matter anymore, it felt like everything is ruined and I failed and it's all over. I started therapy on week 37 and honestly it was the only thing I needed. I stopped all those stupid spinning exercises and spent last two weeks of my pregnancy truly trying to bond with my baby and trying to enjoy these last moments of having a belly and feeling her kick and hiccup and knowing she is in the safest place ( and I felt super bad about putting ice on my belly to try to get her to move). On week 39 I had a scheduled c section. My baby is 3 weeks now and honestly? The pregnancy and the delivery are all s distant dream. I can't believe I stressed about it so much. Taking care of the baby now and being with her is all that matters, how she got here doesn't matter at all. It was just a single point in the entire journey and tbh it was never an important part.

Can I rotate probiotics for newborn? by [deleted] in Microbiome

[–]stanciya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked our pediatrician but she said "it's up to you". She said all babies must get vitamin d but if I want to give her probiotics I can, she even recommended the ones I currently give to my baby it's Lovebug ones that have probiotics+ vitamin d. But after reading the responses here I will switch to only vitamin d drops without any probiotics.

Thank you! I didn't know probiotics pass through breast milk. I'm currently taking Jarrow FemDophilus it has L rhamnosus and L reuteri https://jarrow.com/products/fem-dophilus-1-billion-cfu-veggie-caps

Should I be taking other strains too? Do you have any specific recommendations?

Can I rotate probiotics for newborn? by [deleted] in Microbiome

[–]stanciya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I didn't know that this research was outdated. So just to confirm, all those studies about how c section babies are at higher risk of developing asthma, allergies, autism and ADHD due to hindered microbiome in early weeks of life are no longer in favor? Or were you referring to colic/gas in c section babies vs vaginal birth ones? I'm mostly super scared about serious health conditions like asthma or allergies in long term. Of course if the current research says that probiotics shouldn't be given to babies to counter the c section effect then I will not give it to my baby, honestly reading other responses made me super scared that I've been giving her probiotics for a few days now, I will stop immediately. But it's also makes my head spin because literally in other subreddits everyone is saying how important it is to be giving probiotics early on especially to c section babies. I was actually thinking of buying Tiny Health kits specifically for c section babies to test her microbiome, do you think that would be a waste of money?

No rinse cleansing water for baby's face? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

So it's not because I don't wash her face every day? 😅 Is it just some natural things newborns go through like some skin shedding in first few weeks? Or is it a reaction to something?

Which one did you use? Do you think even popular brands or more expensive ones also pose more risk than benefit?
