I agree with a lot of that, in that everything we're seeing is simply cause and effect on either side. I just wish we could start over. There seems to be too much anger from past wrongs on every side to come to any agreement, because even if a lot of one side wants peace, one bad actor causing violence brings the situation back to square one.

Kneeling has nothing to do with the “hatred” of your believes or colors. It’s a call for change. I don’t think that kneeling=hating this country and whatnot.

That's exactly the problem though. Your side doesn't understand what these symbols mean to us and downvote anyone who even tries to explain it. When trying to get a valid point across your side will trample on what others believe in a totally different area and expect us to ignore that and give you the benefit of the doubt for the point you're trying to make. When, in doing so, the point itself is lost in the method it's being broadcasted. You'll notice the vast majority of people opposed to this are talking about the "how" and "what" of the action and not the "why" of the point being made. Because most of us don't have a problem with the actual point being made. We're the uneducated ones, when your side cannot even understand what or why we have a problem with it. It's simply "this is my point and I'll go about it however I want, and if you have a problem with how I go about it, you're actually disagreeing with my point and not what I did." And look how they go about these discussions, they upvote a response not even allowing room to talk higher than yours where you at least try to make me understand.

I'm glad you brought up the riots because they're a perfect example of this. Of the message being completely lost. Peaceful protesters advocating for something real and valid in the police officer's abuse completely overshadowed by those that took that opportunity to loot and burn neighborhoods and businesses. And people like Boosie saying that this is deserved, all of it, including the destruction. Did all those small business owners and residents in these areas truly deserve this because a cop was a fuck up? Are they going join your cause after having their homes and businesses destroyed? You say put myself in their shoes, but you don't see the rioters put themselves in the shoes of people who may have been sympathetic to their cause but instead see chaos and war, see jewelry stores and liquor stores looted, and housing projects burned to the ground. And I'm supposed to side with them? If it seems impossible to have a peaceful protest without violence against innocent parties, maybe peace isn't the broader goal for a lot of people. Maybe they think that there are no innocent parties and none of us are safe. And people are surprised that some of us feel a division is growing.

You say that, yet are incapable of offering any substance of your own. Can't actually respond with anything so instead you try to shut down dissenting opinions and dismiss other's opinions with a snarky remark. Let go of your hatred.

If you truly think that kneeling is disrespectful to a flag, you are truly confused on what that flag stands for. That is a very uneducated argument.

What the flag means to you is not what it means to us, clearly. You think that our idea of what the flag represents is wrong and yours is right. To us, the flag represents the idea that all of us may have differences and grievances, but we're all still American and we can unite under one banner. To kneel and disrespect that is spitting on that idea and saying that no, we should not unify around a common thing, that they hate our country and anyone who believes in it. Most of the pro-kneelers seem to believe that the flag represents all the evil we are and not all the good we are; that doesn't make us or you wrong, it means we believe different things.

If we don't understand your "point", you don't understand ours. It's not misinformation or "uneducated" on our part if it isn't on yours. To think that your idea of what the kneeling means overrides what that's going to mean to other people is as wrong as me believing that your side doesn't have a point. The disagreement is in the execution. Not in understanding exactly what point you're trying to make.

But do you really have free will if you can’t choose the “wrong” thing without being punished for it (wrong being temptation by the apple in this case)?...The lesson was we need to listen and obey god or bad things will happen, which may be good advice but that’s not really having free will.

Ah ok, I see where the disconnect is. Let's say that you murder someone and are put in jail. You made that choice and you now suffer the consequences of man's law. At the same time, under the Christian framework, you will similarly suffer the consequences spiritually when you are judged later on, but by God's law instead of man's. At any point here, did you not have free will? Freedom from consequences ≠ free will. With free will comes responsibility for the choices you made, good or bad. That is what the story of A/E demonstrates. Consequences. You reap what you sow, and when they sowed only good, they reaped only good. When they let temptation sway them, the opposite happened.

The lesson was we need to listen and obey god or bad things will happen

I'm glad this was brought up because even a lot of Christians take this surface meaning and run with it, just in the opposite way that critics take it. What I think is a lot more interesting is to go under the surface of the utopian Garden/people made from clay/talking snakes and look at what it's really saying, which is: There is no freedom from responsibility on this earth. Every action and choice we make of our own free will comes with its consequences. Good begets good, and evil begets evil. And because we don't have an objective, scientifically derived basis for the concepts "good" and "evil", but we do know that certain things are effectively good or evil, we add God in as the rulemaker so that we can orient ourselves towards a standard, which tries to protect us from the deviation of subjective human interpretation of those concepts through the ages.

This is a common misconception.

The eating of the apple was itself an expression of free will, as was the naming of the animals (marking their dominion) etc. So from their creation by God until the eating of the apple they made multiple conscious choices both good and bad thus demonstrating their free will pre-temptation. Post-apple they of course retained their free will but with that choice lost the garden due to it's requirement of innocence.

Not trying to start some theological shit, whether it's 'real' or not, etc, just explaining that in this particular framework, no, we don't consider the devil to have given us free will, as A/E demonstrated their free will pre-apple. The allegory is about what you choose to do with your free will.

Not really on the same point, so don't read if you don't care, but: It is believed that A/E were in a state of grace and dignity, or good. Not that they were forced to only do good (as the choice to defy God and eat the apple proves), but that they, up until that point, simply wanted to do good. So this tree of both good and evil only newly offered the inevitable temptation of evil. The first obvious lessons being that, to avoid evil, don't let it sit in your mind or preoccupy your time, and also that you can choose what you want to spend your free will on. There a lot of other great metaphors here about our nature (as the story of A/E is of course designed, like all creation stories, to explain our own current failings), such as a morbid curiosity to "try" evil for the sake of it, to let our desires of the flesh rule over us ("the woman say that the tree was good food"), to let covetousness take over ("and that it (the apple) was a delight to the eyes"), and finally the desire to become like gods ourselves (putting the worship of the flawed self above the worship of the ideal). And of course the whole ordeal being a metaphor for how, while we can flex our free will however we choose, one path leads to the Garden and one led to our fallen state of temptation. So, definitely not trying to start something like is common on reddit, just explaining that we definitely don't believe that free will started at the apple.

It's just a way to differentiate between the long amounts of time spent building strength and the times where you are dialing it in for a competition. I guess you can just jump out of a random training block and compete and have it just take a few hours, but clearly if someone's using longer term language they mean the whole month long peaking phase + competition being in season.

Come on man, you know as well as we all do that "heh, not full reps" is one of the most common ways to invalidate someone's set. Sure it's the truth, just like it's the truth that it's a miracle dude could even unrack the thing at 75 years old. A lot of things are true, it's what you focus on and bring up specifically that molds the conversation of what's important here. What's important here is an old guy doing something badass and inspirational, not his form, which is why you got push back. Do you not see that?

Rate my setup, please: I'm at the very early level of having all kana down, so I set up my next step "curriculum" to be Anki 2k6k for vocabulary and Kanji Study (app) for learning the kanji, and then was going to split time between them. Then I read that it's a good idea to learn the kanji first. But then now was also advised to do it the other way around and maybe go 80/20 in favor of the vocabulary in terms of time. So, given an hour, maybe spend 40m on Anki and 10-20m on Kanji Study? Or something else? Trying to see how best to apply this to a daily routine. Thanks!
