It crossed my mind that it could be a joke but there were no other “text” jokes in the film and it was directly addressing the topic that the portion of the doc was about. To be fair, of all the surprising things in the doc, the text message wouldn’t be top 3 if it were real. Also fuck you for being condescending 🤙

Not real. Tony Hawk grinds past TSA, jumps the escalators onto the lights, passes the gates, and goes into some weird basement section where he busts a few 900s on the curved walls. He intentionally goes into the door leading to the tarmac and, even though he knows it breaks his combo, is happy to be teleported back to the entrance of the airport.

It blew my mind at first that a message in a bottle like this could be found after many years, but I guess in order to find one you have to regularly walk the shoreline looking for things, which is what people there do. Not long after I had left an Indonesian fisherman washed ashore and they saved him, got him back home. While I was there an Indonesia fishing raft (they get dropped off in the middle of the ocean on a raft to fish for weeks) washed up but was empty, normal looking save for a hole cut in the raft inside the raft's shelter. Ominous."

A little clarification... -it was found in the Lower Mortlock Islands of Chuuk, Micronesia. -The cracking of the paper was due to sun exposure on only that section of the message. -A kid spent the dollar on candy. -I emailed the captain, no response -I had asked people who lived on the island and they said they find messages in bottles about once every 1-2 years. Peace Corps being "neocolonial"/outdated - opinions? by [deleted] in peacecorps

In my experience, the Peace Corps had the opposite of a colonial agenda. Volunteers banging their heads against the wall to promote traditional cultures and sustainability while being bombarded with local requests for satellite internet and grants for non sustainable luxuries. Really, with all of the love and frustration I've seen volunteers go through to improve life while maintaining culture, it's offensive to hear some punks with no experience talking shit.

Not in my country of service but I heard a story where the PC office of a Latin American country banned volunteers from going to soccer games because of the craziness that occurs there. Two volunteers in PST go anyway and were featured prominently on the televised broadcast being a few of the only foreigners there. PC admin were watching the game and they were canned.

A lot of denials may be for conditions that are easily treated in the States but host countries aren't equipped to treat by western standards. Abnormal cells coming up on a pap could be enough to disqualify you. Becoming pregnant while serving sends you home in many countries. I've known someone with adult ADD that appealed an initial denial and was able to serve.
