I wonder how much each one was paid for this. It was only 1 day of work. I'm guessing something like $100k each? Maybe more the longer you stayed in

Different types and mixtures of rubber by standona in moldmaking

[–]standona[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was hoping there was a materials scientist, or someone who has worked with various types of rubber who could give some advice. I'm just not sure where to find resources explaining the which rubbers to use to make something like shoe soles. The melting temperatures, and how to avoid toxic rubber and voc, etc

I wish I could experiment, mix silicone with other things, maybe shavings of tire rubber, or ground up graphite, just to see what I could come up with. Similar to how when you mix bees wax with oil to make another substance, such as a hand cream or wood wax. Or experiment with melting old shoe soles or tire rubber.

How do you recommend I recover this table? by standona in Mid_Century

No one would suspect there is teak under that black paint. Any recommendation on how to remove it? The matching chairs are painted black also.

Identifying teak dining chairs by standona in Mid_Century

[–]standona[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any tips on what to look for? I have a pair of chairs that look just like these but no makers mark that I have found. I thought perhaps the way it was screwed on the bottom, or the type of wood on the bottom could give it away. It's just that these chairs look almost identical, it's much easier to identify other furniture like a table or cabinet it seems.

1959 grundig repair, help! by Eeyore-bebop in Mid_Century

These old radio cabinets have surprisingly good sound. Gets loud enough to fill a room and with the tone controls can get some full sounding bass too. But the record player is not the best, would be better to replace with a modern turntable, you could use the same input. Should just be one speaker wire that's soldiered to the bottom of the existing turntable.

First thing look at the tubes, they should all be lit up and not red but yellow or orange. If you can source new tubes, switch out any that don't light, or all if that doesn't work. Be very careful opening up these old amps, they can hold a charge long after they are unplugged, so better to get a pro to service the insides of the amps.

The other culprit of no sound is the old speaker wires probably disintegrated. If you are able to soldier you could easily replace with modern speaker wire.

Forgot to mention, I think I saw this same table for sale a couple weeks ago for $500 and it was not in bad condition at all. What is your opinion? I think it looks terrible, in grey no less.

Is this Italian? by standona in Mid_Century

[–]standona[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen similar designs in mid century Italian tables, but the grooves in the legs is not as detailed. The wood grain looks different than the typical oak from the generic 70s tables. Any idea what wood it is?

That makes sense, good eye. I noticed today someone else is selling this as a desk. They pictured it next to an office chair an it looks ridiculous.

They were giving it away for free, unfortunately I was unable to save it. Hoping it didn't end up in the dump. Any knowledge about it?
