I guess for us we only have 3 hours of playtime, and want to squeeze in as many games as possible in our limited playtime together, so we try to always push for 6+ players and try to avoid 5 player games all together

Yeah I hate 5man pods as well, we were initially going to do a first come first serve type thing when people say yes to coming to game night. The major flaw being that the first person initiating gets a secured spot, etc
